Banyule City Council is looking for a Capital Accountant to join our Strategic Finance and Performance team. This is a great opportunityto play a key role in the financial stewardship of Business unit budgets, Council’scapital works, fixed assets and development contributions functions.
About the role and what you’ll do
In this parental leave cover role, you will manage Council’sFixed Asset Register, provide specialist asset accounting advice (businesspartnering), support capital works forecasting and reporting, and partner withstakeholders across Council to strengthen financial planning anddecision-making. You will also lead Development Contributions Plan functionsand support accurate, compliant and timely reporting.
This is a role for someone who enjoys both the technicaldetail and the bigger picture — someone who can interpret accounting standards,analyse financial data, build trusted relationships and provide advice thathelps Council make informed investment decisions.
This role is part of Banyule’s Leadership Network– you’ll have opportunities to grow your skills and experience ofleadership in a Local Government context and develop your skills as anorganisational leader beyond your role-based expertise.
What you’ll be working on
- manageand maintain accurate asset information across acquisition, valuation,depreciation and disposal processes
- preparefixed asset and capital works reporting, including forecasts, varianceanalysis and statutory reporting
- providefinancial business partnering advice across budgeting, forecasting,reporting and performance analysis
- workclosely with project managers,
the Capital Delivery Team and the AssetManagement Team to support Council’s Capital Works and Initiatives Program
- leadand support Development Contributions Plan operations, reporting andcontinuous improvement
- contributeto financial governance, audit readiness, policy input and processimprovement.
About you (what you'll bring/what we are looking for)
We’re looking for someone with atertiary qualification in accounting or finance, who has completed or isworking towards CA or CPA qualification. You’ll also have:
- Proven experience and demonstratedcapability in asset accounting, forecasting and financial reporting.
- Proven experience in corporate projectmanagement.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skillsand ability to proactively build relationships with key internal and externalstakeholders.
- Demonstrated excellent communicationskills, particularly when providing advice on complex financial issues.
- Leadershipskills, including the ability to effectively manage staff performance anddevelopment.
- Generalknowledge of Development Contributions Plans

- Salary$113,252.44 to $126,351.47 per annum, plus super (dependent on experience)
