Project Manager – Major Concrete Operations
Sunshine Coast
Highly competitive Salary – paid relocation costs considered
Take ownership of the concrete operations supporting one of the Sunshine Coast’s most significant infrastructure projects and help establish the next operation from the ground up. Our client is one of Australia’s leading construction materials organisations, with an extensive network of concrete, quarry and operational sites across the country and their people and products support major residential, commercial and civil infrastructure projects, helping to build stronger and more sustainable communities. Based near Cooroy, you will lead the onsite concrete operations supporting a complex dam improvement project. You will manage plant performance, people, customer relationships, budgets and production delivery, while also helping prepare for an additional project operation at Coolum. This is not a desk-based project-management position. You will be visible on site, working alongside your team, resolving operational issues and ensuring concrete is produced safely, consistently and in line with demanding project schedules. This is a permanent position offering exposure to a strong pipeline of major projects beyond the current program.
Your next opportunity
Reporting to the Major Projects Manager for South East Queensland Concrete, you will initially take responsibility for an established onsite operation at Lake Macdonald.
As the project develops, you will also play an important role in establishing and staffing the next concrete operation at Coolum, with the potential to oversee multiple project sites across the Sunshine Coast.
You will lead four direct reports and coordinate approximately 10–15 drivers, working closely with the principal construction contractor, technical teams, suppliers and internal stakeholders.
The environment is fast-moving and highly accountable. Production volumes are significant, customer expectations are high and reliable plant performance is critical to the successful delivery of the broader infrastructure program.
Your responsibilities
- Lead safe, reliable and efficient concrete operations across major project sites
- Manage daily production requirements against changing project schedules and customer demand
- Coordinate concrete orders, batching activities,
testing and technical support
- Maintain plant availability and coordinate preventative and reactive maintenance
- Lead, coach and develop production employees and drivers
- Create an engaged, accountable and safety-focused site culture
- Conduct toolbox talks and ensure employees and contractors follow site requirements
- Build robust working relationships with construction partners, engineers and other stakeholders
- Respond quickly and professionally to customer concerns and operational issues
- Manage site expenditure, labour costs, budgets, forecasts and operational performance
- Monitor production, service, safety and plant-performance targets
- Drive continuous improvement across plant operations, systems and processes
- Support recruitment, onboarding and workforce planning for the new project operation
- Assist with concrete batching and front-end loader operations when required
- Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental and quality requirements
About you
You are an experienced operational leader who is equally comfortable talking with production employees on the plant floor and meeting with engineers and senior project stakeholders. You remain calm under pressure, communicate clearly and take ownership when production priorities change or problems arise. You understand that strong customer relationships must be supported by safe operations, reliable equipment and consistent delivery.
You will ideally bring:
- Operational leadership experience within concrete production or a closely related environment
- A sound understanding of concrete batching, production processes and quality requirements
- Experience leading plant-based teams in a safety-critical environment
- Strong customer and stakeholder-management capabilityThe confidence to work directly with construction managers, engineers and project representatives
- Experience managing production schedules, labour, costs, budgets and operational targets
- Practical knowledge of plant maintenance, reliability and asset utilisation
- The ability to balance competing priorities in a high-volume operation
- A visible and hands-on leadership style
- Front-end loader operating experience and ideally a current front-end loader ticket
- A valid Construction White Card
- A current driver’s license and clean driving record
Experience within civil construction, aggregates, quarrying or another heavy production environment may also be considered where you can demonstrate meaningful exposure to concrete operations.
Formal project-management or engineering qualifications are welcome but are not essential. Your operational experience, leadership capability and understanding of concrete production will carry greater weight.
If you do not currently hold a front-end loader ticket but have relevant operational experience and are willing and able to obtain one, we would still welcome a conversation.
Why this opportunity stands out
This role offers considerably more scope than managing a single permanent concrete plant. You will work at the centre of a significant civil infrastructure project where your decisions directly influence production continuity, customer outcomes and project delivery. You will inherit an established operation, help shape a new site and have the opportunity to build and lead its team.
- A permanent, full-time position not a project-based contract
- An attractive salary package including a tool of the trade vehicle plus relocation assistance if required.
- A predominantly Monday-to-Friday day-shift roster
- Exposure to complex, high-profile infrastructure delivery
- The opportunity to establish and grow additional concrete operations
- An accessible manager who encourages autonomy and open communication
- Really positive culture on site
- Strong technical, safety and operational support
- Long-term career opportunities across major projects and operational leadership
- Access to employee support and professional-development programs
If you are ready to take ownership of a complex concrete operation, build trusted customer relationships and lead a team delivering an important Sunshine Coast infrastructure project, we would like to hear from you.
