Structen

Sydney

Structen is a NSW commercial construction company delivering projects all over NSW. We build for national clients who independently audit our projects and expect the work to be right the first time.

We’re a small, direct team. Most of our staff have been here for years. That’s either a glowing endorsement or a hostage situation, and we’re fairly confident it’s the first one.

About us

Structen is a NSW commercial construction company delivering projects all over NSW. We build for national clients who independently audit our projects and expect the work to be right the first time.

We’re a small, direct team. Most of our staff have been here for years. That’s either a glowing endorsement or a hostage situation, and we’re fairly confident it’s the first one.

About the role

This is a part‑time role, worked from home, reporting to the Directors.

You’ll own health and safety at Structen — all of it. The management system, the documentation, subcontractor compliance, incident response, reporting, and making sure our Site Managers are meeting their obligations on the ground.

We run our safety on BuildPass, so inductions, SWMS approvals, prequalification, permits and site records are already digitised.

The hours are fairly flexible across four or five days and open to discussion about how this fits with our needs and your lifestyle. An occasional trip to site or the office may be required, but mostly you can work remotely.

What you’ll be doing

- Maintaining and improving Structen's WHS management system in BuildPass, keeping it current with the WHS Act 2011 (NSW), WHS Regulation 2017 and relevant Codes of Practice

- Preparing and maintaining WHS management plans for notifiable construction projects, and supporting our principal contractor obligations

- Reviewing SWMS for high risk construction work and sending back the ones that don't cut it

- Monitoring Site Manager compliance with their WHS obligations — site inspections, toolbox talks, sign‑on, site diaries, permits — and following up where things aren't being done

- Coaching and supporting Site Managers so they understand what's required of them and why, not just that a box needs ticking

- Subcontractor WHS prequalification — insurances, licences, competencies — and keeping compliance current across all active projects

- Supporting incident and near miss investigations, and following corrective actions through to close‑out

- Managing notifiable incidents and correspondence with SafeWork NSW

- Maintaining induction content, training and competency records, and keeping plant and equipment registers current

- Preparing WHS reporting for the Directors and for clients whose contracts require it

What you’ll bring

Essential

- Minimum Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety

- Demonstrated WHS experience in commercial construction, ideally with a head contractor

- Working knowledge of the WHS Act 2011 (NSW), WHS Regulation 2017 and the construction Codes of Practice

- The self‑management to work unsupervised and set your own rhythm across the week

- The ability to hold Site Managers and subcontractors to account without souring the relationship — you'll be doing it mostly by phone and email rather than face to face, which takes a particular kind of skill

- Writing valuable enough that your plans, reports and investigations stand up to a client audit or a regulator

- Current White Card and NSW driver's licence

- A smile and a sense of humour.

Well regarded

- Diploma or degree in WHS

- Experience with BuildPass, or a comparable platform such as HammerTech, SiteDocs or Procore

- ISO 45001 implementation or audit experience

- Experience supporting multiple concurrent sites

- Cert IV in Training and Assessment

What we offer

- Real flexibility — the hours are yours to shape around the rest of your life - the gym, the kids, the dog.

- Systems already in place. We run on BuildPass, so you're improving a digitised system rather than building one from scratch.

- Direct access to the Directors, with your recommendations carrying weight

- We are an equal opportunity employer - we don't care if you are gay, straight, fat, ugly or unconventionally pretty. As long as you are a good human and you are excellent at what you do, you'll fit in just fine.

Eligibility

Applicants must have the right to work in Australia, and be fluent reading, writing and speaking English.
