About the role
n
The Midwifery Consultant (MC) demonstrates expert knowledge and skills in providing appropriate care, education,
referrals and coordination of services to women and their newborns with complex psychosocial needs and adversity. The MC is involved in discharging these women into the community liaising with appropriate service providers.
n
Key duties of the role
n
n
- Direct delivery of proficient Midwifery clinical care to patients/clients and their families using evidence-based practice
n
- Demonstrate a commitment to consumer participation and ensure services are delivered in a culturally sensitive manner
n
- Provide clinical leadership and support for the midwives working in the largest Maternity service in South Australia
n
- Responsible for individual development and education and contribute to a clinical learning environment
n
- Contribute to processes for quality improvement activities in the Women's and Babies Division
n
n
Skills and Experience
n
n
- Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse and/or Midwife by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practising certificate.
n
- Effective communication, problem solving, conflict resolution and negotiation skills to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team approach to client centred care
n
- Registered Nurse/Midwife with at least 3 years post-graduation experience or currently classified as a Clinical Nurse/Midwife
n
- Work Health and Safety (WHS) and continuous improvement practices
n
- Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to work with individuals and families for positive health outcomes and to foster productive working relationships across disciplines
n
