The Doorways Team provide person-centred trauma informed care, facilitate short-term financial assistance, and walk side-by-side with participants as they build the skills and knowledge to break the cycle of poverty. About the role

The Salvation Army Tasmania is seeking a highly organised and compassionate Christmas Cheer Support Worker/Assessor to support the delivery of our Christmas Cheer program. This is a hands-on role combining administration, community engagement and warehouse support. You will play an important part in processing applications, communicating outcomes, coordinating gift collections and supporting the safe and efficient distribution of donated gifts and food items. This part-time position (20 hours per week) is based in Derwent Park and is offered as a fixed-term contract until January 2027, with remuneration at SCHADS Level 2.

Coordinate and undertake assessments of Christmas Cheer applications from community members on behalf of Doorways Tasmania, ensuring timely and appropriate support for individuals and families in need. Ensure all successful applicants are booked into the online collection calendar and notified of their collection details in a timely manner. Ensure all unsuccessful applicants are advised of the outcome of their application as soon as possible. When required provide hands-on support to the Warehouse Supervisor, including the collection, unpacking, sorting, storage, and distribution of donated gifts and food items. This includes supporting volunteers and coordinating the distribution of donations through Salvation Army programs and external community partner organisations.

How You Will Make an Impact

Process and assess Christmas Cheer applications in accordance with established guidelines, maintaining accurate records and notifying applicants of outcomes within required timeframes. Manage the online collection calendar and communicate collection details clearly and respectfully to approved applicants.



Provide administrative and operational support to Doorways managers, the Warehouse Supervisor, staff and volunteers. Receive, sort, record, pick, pack, store and distribute donated gifts, food and Bags of Hope to Salvation Army sites and community partner organisations. Support volunteers, caseworkers and Corps Officers during gift preparation and distribution, promoting secure and effective service delivery. Assist with warehouse operations, including stock management, supermarket orders, pack-down and safe storage or distribution of remaining stock. Maintain a safe, clean and compliant working environment while meeting Salvation Army policies, reporting requirements, training obligations and health and safety procedures.

- The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team.
- Current National Police Record Check.
- Current and valid Working with Vulnerable People Check - Child Related Activity.
- Current Tasmanian Driver Licence.
