Senior/Associate Engineer - Traction Power

At WSP, we're delivering some of Australia's most significant transport infrastructure projects. As our rail portfolio continues to grow, we're looking for an experienced Senior/Associate Engineer - Traction Power to join our specialist Rail Electrification team.
n
This is an opportunity to work alongside industry-recognised experts, leading the design and delivery of complex traction power systems from business case development through to detailed design and construction documentation. You'll play a key role in helping clients solve complex engineering challenges across the full asset lifecycle while mentoring the next generation of rail engineers.
n
What you'll do
n
Reporting to the Rail Electrification leadership team, you'll provide technical leadership across a diverse portfolio of rail infrastructure projects by:
n
n
- Leading and coordinating traction power projects from concept and feasibility through to AFC/IFC delivery.
n
- Delivering AC and DC traction power design solutions for major rail infrastructure projects.
n
- Conducting and reviewing technical reports, feasibility studies and option assessments.
n
- Undertaking and reviewing power system studies, including protection studies and electrical calculations.
n
- Supporting High Voltage and Low Voltage Earthing & Bonding and earth grid design activities.
n
- Managing design packages and coordinating multidisciplinary project interfaces.
n
- Working closely with clients to understand project requirements and develop technical solutions.
n
- Contributing to tenders, proposals and business development activities.
n
- Building and maintaining robust client and stakeholder relationships.
n
- Mentoring graduate and developing engineers while supporting the growth of the broader rail electrification team.
n
n
About you
n
You'll be an experienced traction power engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems and building trusted relationships with clients and colleagues alike.
n
You'll bring:
n
n
- A Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Power Engineering.
n
- 6 to 15+ years' experience in traction power engineering design.
n
- Strong experience in traction power and HV supply system design.
n
- Demonstrated experience preparing engineering drawings, calculations, technical reports and design documentation.
n
- Experience in traction power substations and associated electrical infrastructure.
n
- Knowledge of HV and LV Earthing & Bonding design principles.
n
- Strong understanding of relevant IEC, EN, ASA, AS and rail industry standards.
n
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
n
- The ability to work autonomously whilst managing multiple priorities and project deliverables.
n
n
Desirable experience
n
We'd be particularly interested in candidates with:
n
n
- Sydney Trains and/or Transport for NSW project experience (preferred, not essential).
n
- Exposure to rail electrification construction, testing or commissioning activities.
n
- Experience with software such as DIgSILENT-PowerFactory, CDEGS, ETAP, PSCAD, MATLAB, DIALux, OpenTrack and OpenPowerNet.
n
- Chartered status or progress towards professional accreditation.
n
