Sales Representative / Junior BDM

Freightquip is looking for a commercially minded and motivated Sales Representative / Junior Business Development Manager to join our growing sales team.
This is an prospect to develop a career in technical and industrial sales, working alongside experienced Business Development Managers and industry specialists while gradually building responsibility for your own customers, opportunities and sales targets.
You don't need to arrive as an experienced BDM. We are looking for someone with the drive, communication skills and commercial mindset to develop into one.

Working with leading local and international original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), we support customers throughout Australia and New Zealand with equipment, technical solutions and aftersales support.

About the Role
As a Sales Representative, you will work with Freightquip's sales and technical teams to identify opportunities, develop customer relationships and grow sales across our markets.
Initially, you will work closely with experienced Sales leaders, learning our products, customers, OEM partners and sales process.
As your knowledge and capability develop, you will take increasing ownership of your own customers, sales opportunities and market segments.
Your role will include prospecting and lead generation, customer engagement, preparing quotations and proposals, following up opportunities, supporting tenders and developing new business.
This is a hands‑on commercial role with a genuine pathway into a full Business Development Manager position.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and develop new sales opportunities across Freightquip's target markets.
- Research prospective customers, projects and emerging market opportunities.
- Undertake outbound prospecting and lead generation.
- Build relationships with new and existing customers.
- Attend customer meetings, site visits and industry events.
- Understand customer operational requirements and assist in developing suitable equipment solutions.
- Prepare and follow up quotations, proposals and commercial offers.
- Work with international OEM partners to obtain pricing, specifications and technical information.
- Maintain an active sales pipeline and ensure opportunities are progressed and followed up.
- Maintain accurate CRM records, opportunity values, expected close dates and next actions.
- Assist with tenders and larger commercial submissions.
- Work with technical and operational teams to develop customer solutions and commercial proposals.
- Monitor competitor activity, industry developments and upcoming projects.
- Develop knowledge of Freightquip's products, customers and industries.
- Provide sales forecasts, pipeline updates and activity reporting.
- Achieve agreed sales and business development targets as responsibility for your territory or portfolio grows.
- Support effective handover of successful sales opportunities into Freightquip's project, service and operational teams.
About You
We are looking for someone who is confident communicating with customers, commercially curious and motivated to build a career in sales.
You may already have some sales experience, or you could come from a technical, service, project or industrial environment and be looking for an opportunity to move into a commercial role.
You will ideally bring:
- Some experience in sales, account management, customer service, business development or trade based role.
- A genuine interest in developing a career in technical sales and business development.
- Confidence speaking with customers and developing professional relationships.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Commercial awareness and an interest in understanding how businesses make purchasing decisions.
- The confidence to prospect, approach current customers and follow up opportunities.
- Good organisation and the ability to manage multiple sales opportunities at different stages.
- Experience using CRM systems or the ability to learn them quickly.
- Confidence using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- The ability to understand technical information and work effectively with technical specialists.
- A proactive, accountable and results‑focused approach.
Experience within electrical, mechanical, engineering, freight, industrial equipment, trades, transport, aviation, rail, ports or heavy industry will be highly regarded, but is not essential.
