About the role

The Melbourne Clinic (TMC) is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Grade 2 Social Worker to join the Older Adult Unit/Living Well Program Team. The role is situated within our general inpatient program and will involve the provision of inpatient social work case management, biopsychosocial assessment and intervention, and individual and group therapy. The service works with clients (17-90+ years) with a wide range of conditions, including chronic mental health conditions, acquired brain injury, substance use, and later life cognitive changes (older adults).

Position Summary





Suitably qualified Grade 2 Social Workers are being sought for a part‑time position at The Melbourne Clinic, Richmond, Victoria. The Older Adult Unit (Living Well Program) offers a broad range of psychotherapeutic groups and activities, some including Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, psychosocial rehabilitation, Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy, psychoeducation on mental health, and many more.

The Social Worker provides support, guidance, and assistance to older adult clients admitted to our mental health hospital. As part of the Living Well Program/Older Adult team, the Social Worker is responsible for facilitating evidence-based group therapy programs and providing individual or family sessions for clients struggling with mental health issues. As part of the individual sessions, the Social Worker will also assist with the older adult patients to ensure suitable discharge planning. The Social Worker will participate in the development and evaluation of policies and programs and demonstrate commitment to ongoing Quality Improvement Activities.

The position requires the Social Worker to work independently with patients and within the multidisciplinary team, and regular communication with psychiatrists and nursing team.

The role is well supported by the social workand broader allied health team. The Social Work teamprovides on‑site professional development opportunities, including a monthly Social Work Forum with 15+ social worker peers, groupsupervision and weekly Professorial Unit Academic Forum presentations. There is also allocated allowance towards preferred Career development.

Availability to work Wednesday, Thursdays, Fridays are desirablebut open to discussion.

This is an ongoing permanent part-time role (0.6 EFT).

- Eligibility for registration with AASW
- Appropriate tertiary qualifications in Social Work
- At least 2-3 years of clinical experience as a social worker
- Knowledge of the Aged Care system (application process and any other services related to older adults)
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills




- Demonstrated commitment to high-quality service provision and to professional development
- Well‑developed time management and workload organisational skills
- A commitment to upholding high standards of ethical practice
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team (working alongside nurses, psychiatrists, and other members of the allied health team)
- Experience and competency in the provision of evidence based group therapies (desirable)
- Understanding of the Aged Care system (application process and any other services related to older adults)
- Current Working with Children Check
