What's on Offer

- Contract/Engagement: Initial 12-month contract + 2x 12-month extension options.

- Location: Canberra, ACT - ONLY

Role & Responsibilities

- Design, write, test, and integrate highly efficient code across the full software development life cycle to meet strict delivery milestones.

- Undertake incident response, troubleshooting, and debugging to resolve technical issues, which includes providing after-hours support on a rotating shift roster.

- Collaborate closely with project managers, business analysts, and ICT support staff to translate business requirements into high-quality software solutions.

- Produce robust technical specifications, document software functionality,



and adhere to the department's cyber security and change/release standards.

- Provide technical guidance, share expertise with the wider team, and contribute to forward planning to ensure mainframe systems meet future demand.

Skills & Experience

To be successful in this position, you will ideally bring:

- Technical Toolkit: Strong knowledge of PL/I, COBOL, CICS, JCL, VSAM, DB2, and mainframe operating systems such as z/OS and z/VSE. Experience with IBM MQ Series, Rocket Data z/Services, and telemetry/monitoring tools is highly regarded.

- Experience: Demonstrated commercial experience in mainframe development, including executing tasks across the full life cycle, testing, integration, and deployment.

- Core Capabilities: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the proven ability to build client relationships, translate business needs, and maintain comprehensive technical documentation.

Eligibility & Clearance Requirements

- Security Clearance: Must hold a current NV1 security clearance.
