The opportunity
ANMAC is looking for a Senior People & Culture Officer to join its Canberra-based team.
The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC) plays an important role in Australia's health system, promoting high-quality standards for nursing and midwifery accreditation and assessing the skills of nurses and midwives seeking to migrate to Australia through the General Skilled Migration program.
It's a purpose-driven organisation with a focus on integrity, excellence, equity, courage and impact, and its People & Culture team plays a key role in creating the workforce and workplace needed to deliver that work.
Based at Brindabella Park in Canberra, this is a full time Senior People & Culture Officer role reporting directly to the People & Culture Manager.
Why this role?
The role has a really interesting dual focus – you'll be the go to person for a broad range of HR matters while also taking genuine ownership of ANMAC's WHS framework.
You'll have the opportunity to build, improve and embed the organisation's approach to WHS and wellbeing, rather than simply maintaining a compliance register and ticking boxes.
At the same time, you'll be involved across the full employee lifecycle – from recruitment and onboarding through to employee relations, policy, compliance, reporting, engagement and wellbeing.
What you'll be doing
- Leading and embedding ANMAC's WHS framework, including risk management, incident management and safety initiatives.
- Providing practical HR advice across employee relations, policy and compliance.
- Managing end-to-end recruitment and onboarding.
- Supporting HRIS management, workforce reporting and process improvement.
- Driving workplace wellbeing, engagement and initiatives that support a healthy and inclusive workplace.
- Supporting WHS training, safety awareness and manager capability.
- Providing guidance and support to the broader P&C; team.
What we're looking for
We're looking for an experienced HR generalist who genuinely knows their way around WHS. You'll ideally bring:
- Demonstrated experience in a generalist HR role with responsibility for WHS program management or coordination.
- Sound knowledge of WHS legislation, incident management and risk assessment.
- Experience managing end-to-end recruitment and the broader employee lifecycle.
- Working knowledge of the Fair Work Act, Modern Awards, enterprise agreements and contemporary HR practice.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including policy and report writing.
- Experience using HRIS platforms and Microsoft Office.
- The confidence to work autonomously, exercise judgement and manage competing priorities.
A Certificate IV in WHS or equivalent qualification would be highly regarded, as would experience with WHS committees, governance forums, workforce analytics or within a regulatory, professional services, accreditation or not-for-profit setting.
The person
This role will suit someone who is practical, proactive and comfortable being the person people come to when they need an answer.
One day could involve an employee relations matter, the next a WHS risk assessment, followed by recruitment, reporting and a conversation with a manager about their team's wellbeing.
You’ll need to be organised enough to juggle it all and experienced enough to know what needs your attention now and what can wait.
Most importantly, you’ll have the opportunity to make a tangible difference to how HR and WHS operate within a growing, purpose-driven organisation.
Diversity and Inclusion
We welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds, experiences, and identities. We are committed to fostering an inclusive work environment that celebrates diversity and ensures equal opportunities for all. Your unique perspective and talents are valuable to us, and we encourage you to apply.
