Maternity Services at Townsville University Hospital are seeking Registered Nurses to join their 12 month Student Midwife program.

There are 4 positions available, each working 56 hours per fortnight, with intakes commencing 26/04/2027 and the 12/07/2027 for 12 months.

About the opportunity

The purpose of the position is to enable Registered Nurses enrolled in an Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC) accredited postgraduate midwifery program to gain clinical experience in a maternity setting, within a partnership model of supervision, in support of their theoretical learning.

Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the requirements of the training programme including the midwifery experience is required.

The midwifery student will work in partnership with the midwife to provide a safe environment for women and babies by:

- Assisting the midwife to complete delegated responsibilities as outlined in the midwifery course curriculum.
- Working with a preceptor/mentor within the workplace to develop personally and professionally.
- Maintaining a safe environment for self and others in the workplace.

The unit

Townsville Hospital and Health Service is proud to be a Level 6 maternity service, welcoming approximately 2,500 births each year. We offer a diverse range of maternity care options, including standard antenatal care, low-risk Birth Centre care, and high-risk Midwifery Group Practice services. Role requirements

- Qualification:
- Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent certification relevant to the position is mandatory.
- 12 months post graduate Registered Nurse experience (evidence to be provided)
- Acceptance, or ability to apply, for a suitable Postgraduate midwifery university program

- Shift Workers/On Call: Appointees will be required to work all shifts in accordance with the unit roster, which will include participation in an on-call roster.
- This is a VPD risk role.

- Salary range: $44.27 - $56.79 p.h. (NG5)
