Able Mentor Services
Coopers Plains
Experienced all-rounders wanted. Real support, real lives, a team that backs you.
Able Mentor Services supports adults with disability in Coopers Plains, Wellington Point and the surrounding areas — in our three Supported Independent Living homes, and one-to-one in people's own homes and out in the community across Brisbane's southside and the Redlands. Everyone we support wants an ordinary life: their own routines, their own choices, their own front door. Our job is to make that happen, and we're looking for experienced, ready-to-go support workers who can turn their hand to all of it.
This is an all-rounder role. You'll work across our SIL homes and one-to-one individual supports, and shifts vary — mornings, afternoons, weekends, sleepovers and active nights — because they're built around what the people we support need, not around a fixed roster. Good availability is the single thing that matters most to us.
WHAT THE WORK LOOKS LIKE
• In our SIL homes: supporting people with daily living, personal care, meals, medication, appointments and the things they enjoy, as part of a house team
• Individual supports: working one-to-one with a person in their own home or out in the community — getting to appointments, shopping, social and recreation activities, building skills and independence, and helping them stay connected to the people and places that matter to them
• Following each person's support plan and, where one exists, their behaviour support plan
• Shifts across a 24/7 roster — mornings, afternoons, weekends, sleepovers and active nights in the SIL homes, plus daytime and weekend blocks for individual supports — varied week to week to meet each person's needs
• Writing clear, honest shift notes and speaking up when something isn't right
WHAT YOU'LL GET
• SCHADS Level 2 casual rates (25% loading), plus weekend, night, public holiday and sleepover penalties
• Plenty of hours for people with broad availability, with the same people across the houses and community so you build real relationships
• Work close to home: our houses are in Coopers Plains and Wellington Point, and individual supports are in the surrounding suburbs
• Leadership that works shifts alongside you, not from behind a desk
• Room to grow: we invest in training and promote from within
• A small, plain-speaking organisation where the Director knows your name
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Essential:
• Ready-to-go experience: at least 12 months' paid disability support experience across personal care, community access, medication support and behaviour support plans — you can walk into a shift and hold it from day one
• Positive availability: a genuine mix of mornings, afternoons, weekends, and sleepovers or active nights, and the flexibility to take varied shifts week to week
• Comfortable working both in a house team and on your own with a person in the community
• NDIS Worker Screening Clearance (current, or applied)
• Current First Aid (HLTAID011)
and CPR (HLTAID009)
• Open Queensland driver licence and a reliable, comprehensively insured vehicle (individual supports involve driving the people you support — kilometre allowance paid)
• NDIS Worker Orientation Module ("Quality, Safety and You") certificate — free, online, we can send you the link
• Right to work in Australia
Desirable:
• Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) or Certificate IV in Disability
• Experience with complex behaviour support needs, psychosocial disability or high physical support needs, including restrictive-practice reporting
• Manual handling and medication administration training
• SIL experience
WHO DOES WELL HERE
People who are honest, patient, steady under pressure and treat the people they support as adults — and who've done this work long enough to know what we mean. This drive is for experienced workers who can start contributing straight away; if you're new to the sector, keep an eye on us for future entry-level roles.
