Glamorgan Spring Bay Council is seeking an experienced Principal Planner to join our Planning and Development team and play a key role in shaping development across Tasmania’s East Coast.
This is an opportunity to lead complex planning matters, influence quality development outcomes and build your strategic and leadership experience – providing a robust foundation for future senior management or executive opportunities.
About the Role
As Principal Planner, you’ll provide high-level professional planning advice and manage a range of statutory planning matters.
You’ll assess complex development applications, advise developers and stakeholders, prepare reports and recommendations, represent Council in planning matters including TASCAT proceedings, and help improve Council’s planning processes.
You’ll also provide guidance and mentoring to other planning staff and be a trusted source of professional advice across Council.
About You
We’re looking for an experienced planner who can confidently manage complex matters, exercise sound professional judgement and communicate effectively with a wide range of people.
You’ll have:
- A tertiary qualification in town planning, urban development or a related discipline
- Strong statutory planning and development assessment experience
- The ability to interpret and apply planning legislation and planning schemes
- Experience managing complex or sensitive planning matters
- Strong communication, negotiation and report-writing skills
- The ability to work independently while supporting and mentoring others
- A current driver’s licence
- Five or more years’ experience in a similar planning role is desirable.

- $101,000–$120,000 FTE, depending on skills and experience
- 18.5% superannuation, with the option to take the additional 6.5% as ordinary time earnings
