The Waste Network
Notting Hill
Accounts & Customer Service Officer
The Waste Network | Notting Hill, Melbourne VIC | Part-Time — 3 days per week
• Xero and accounts at the core — plus customer service and logistics in one varied part-time seat
• Three days a week, with a pathway to full-time, career and leadership opportunities
• Rewards and incentives that grow with you, in a small, fast-paced, driven team
A journey, not a job
The Waste Network is a boutique, Melbourne-based waste management and resource recovery business built as a smarter, data-led alternative to the major national operators. We deliver waste, recycling, and sustainability programs for major events, venues, and commercial customers — including some of Victoria’s most iconic events. We’re small, fast-paced, and driven, and we’re growing. We’re looking for the right person first — someone who fits how we work — and we’ll build the role around them as the business grows.
About the Role
This is a hybrid part-time position at the centre of our daily operations, with accounts as its backbone. You’ll own our day-to-day finances in Xero, be the friendly first point of contact for customers, and keep our services and subcontractor logistics running like clockwork. Day to day, you will:
• Raise customer invoices, process credits and adjustments, and keep billing accurate
• Perform banking reconciliation in Xero and manage accounts receivable follow-up
• Check supplier and subcontractor invoices against service records
• Respond to customer inquiries and process bookings and service requests
• Liaise with subcontractors to schedule, confirm, and adjust services
• Coordinate logistics and run sheets for regular services and event operations
About You — a doer
We’re a small team,
so there’s nowhere to hide — and no one looking over your shoulder either. We need someone who takes ownership and runs, not someone who needs babysitting.
• Hands-on Xero experience — invoicing, credit notes, bank reconciliation, receivables — essential
• A solid grasp of finance fundamentals: debtors, creditors, reconciliations, GST basics
• A self-starter who spots what needs doing and finishes it without being chased
• Sharp attention to detail with numbers, billing, and data
• A warm, qualified phone manner and explicit written communication
• Organised, calm under pressure, and energised by a fast-moving environment
• Hungry to grow — you want a journey, not a job
Where It Can Go
The role starts at three days per week. As our volumes grow and you take full ownership of the accounts function, there is a genuine pathway to full-time, with broader responsibility, career and leadership opportunities, and rewards and incentives to match. We’d rather find the right person and grow the role around them than fill a seat.
What We Offer
• Performance-based rewards and incentives that recognise ownership, initiative, and results
• Genuine part-time flexibility with a pathway to full-time as the business grows
• Personal and professional development, with the finance function growing around you
• A close-knit, driven culture with direct access to leadership every day
• Free on-site parking at our Notting Hill head office
