Some technology roles ask you to understand the business problem. Others hand you the requirements and ask you to build the solution.

This role gives you the opportunity to do both.

Our client is a purpose-led organisation investing in technology to improve the services it provides to people who need support. They’re looking for two Applications Solution Engineers to join their growing technology team.

It’s particularly well suited to someone with a foundation in applications or software development who wants more ownership, responsibility and the opportunity to grow quickly.

The opportunity

Salesforce is currently at the centre of the applications environment, with several major pieces of work already underway.

A major Salesforce program will focus on understanding how different users work and improving the platform around their needs. There is also technical debt to address and a significant API integration to design and build as the organisation moves away from large-scale manual data exchanges.

Beyond this, a new enterprise data platform is being developed, while internal AI capabilities are already in use. You’ll have opportunities to explore where technology can remove manual effort, improve processes and create better experiences for employees and customers.

Importantly, these aren’t technology projects for technology’s sake. Better systems, automation and digital experiences can give frontline teams more time to focus on the people they support and improve how those services are delivered.

You won’t simply execute somebody else’s roadmap. You’ll be encouraged to identify opportunities, bring forward ideas and help shape what gets delivered.

What you’ll bring

Your current title isn’t particularly important.

You could be an Applications Engineer, Applications Specialist, Solutions Analyst,

Business Systems Analyst, Technical BA or Developer.

What matters is the combination of technical capability, business acumen and attitude.

You’ll be comfortable engaging stakeholders, asking good questions and getting underneath what they actually need. You’ll also have enough technical grounding to want to get hands-on with the solution rather than stopping at requirements.

You don’t need years of software engineering experience. What we are looking for is some experience or education in software development and the ability to write code in at least one language. Previous Salesforce experience isn’t essential.

What matters more is your foundation, your ability to learn and what you want to become.

Just as importantly, you’ll bring energy, drive and ambition.

You’ll look for things that could work better rather than waiting for the next task. You’ll be curious, adaptable and coachable, with the confidence to contribute ideas and take on unfamiliar challenges.

You don’t need to arrive as the finished product. You do need the get-up-and-go to become one.

Why consider it?

If you’re currently in a narrower applications, development, systems analysis or technical BA role, this is an opportunity to broaden into solution design, integration, automation, data and AI without moving away from technology.

But the opportunity goes beyond building your own career.

This is an organisation that exists to help people build skills, access opportunities and move towards meaningful employment. The technology team plays an significant role in making those services easier to deliver and more effective for the people who rely on them.

That creates an unusual combination: the opportunity to be ambitious about your own development while applying that ambition to work that has a genuine social impact.

You’ll also join a supportive environment where people are encouraged to experiment, take sensible risks, contribute ideas and learn quickly.

The role offers a $130,000–$140,000 base salary + superannuation, together with not-for-profit salary packaging through SmartSalary. Depending on your individual circumstances and how you choose to package, this can provide an estimated $12,000–$14,000 additional annual tax benefit.

There is a minimum commitment of two days per week working from an office, with up to three days from home depending on business requirements. Marrickville is the main technology base, however those office days do not necessarily both need to be there, with flexibility to work from other locations where practical.

Next steps

If you’re ambitious, technically capable and want your work to have a meaningful impact, we’d love to hear from you.
