Kalaru
Coast Hire is the Bega Valley's Equipment and Event hHire business, now operating from our new yard at Kalaru alongside Staffords Hardware, with a workshop (On Track Plant & Machinery) three minutes away. We're growing, we've recently restructured how the branch operates, and we're looking for someone to keep the fleet ready and the yard running every day.
The Role
You'll be the first on site each day. Before customers arrive, the yard is open, the day's hires are staged, and every unit going out has completed its pre-start check against our ten-point list. When equipment returns, you inspect, clean, fuel and grease it the same day so it's ready to go out again tomorrow. You'll maintain the basics from a written schedule (oils and fluids, filters, greasing, tyres, lights, batteries), keep hours and service dates logged in Gearbox, and flag anything major to the workshop before it becomes a problem. The role also includes loading and unloading customer vehicles, hitching and checking trailers, deliveries in the ute, and providing every customer with a proper handover — how equipment starts and stops, what to check, and what we expect on return.
You'll also be responsible for our Event Equipment — marquees, tables, chairs and event gear. This includes preparing orders ahead of bookings, loading and delivering to event sites where required, assisting with setup and pack-down, and thoroughly checking, cleaning and re-packing gear on return so it's ready for the next booking.
What We're Looking For
• Mechanical aptitude — comfortable with fluids, filters,
greasing and basic fault-finding. A background as a trade assistant, or in farm, plant or workshop work, is ideal; a completed trade is a bonus, not a requirement.
• Someone who follows a checklist every time, not just when it's busy or being watched. This is central to the role.
• Reliable and punctual — on site before opening, every rostered day.
• Physically fit for the work: able to lift up to 55 kg, and comfortable working outdoors in all weather.
• Current NSW driver's licence. A forklift licence is preferred, or willingness to obtain one within the first three months (we'll cover the cost). MR or HR would be a bonus.
• Robust customer service skills, including confidence on the phone and at the counter during busy periods.
• Comfortable using a phone app and hire management system — full training provided.
What You'll Get
A permanent, full-time role in a small team where you're trusted and the work is varied — plant, trailers, event gear and deliveries. Clear written expectations from day one, with a position description provided at interview. Forklift ticket paid for. A manager on site every day. Genuine opportunity for growth as the business expands.
