Structural Team Manager - Residential & Medium Density Engineering
Brisbane | $160,000 to $200,000 base plus super, bonus & equity

Leading your team in the gaps between your own deadlines?

Most engineers who are good with people end up leading by accident. The title arrives, the project load doesn't shrink, and the coaching happens at 5pm if there's anything left in the tank.

Then at the end of the year you've built something that belongs to somebody else.

This one is the other way round.

Leading the team is the job, not the bit you squeeze in. And what you build, you get a slice of.

There's a bonus of 7.5% of base that's genuinely achievable and paid quarterly, with a further 5% tied to company performance on top. After twelve months you become eligible for equity: share allocations at a discount to current value, converting to ordinary shares that pay dividends out of company profit. It builds year on year, and you only ever buy what vests.

So, you'd own the day to day performance, development and wellbeing of a team of engineers across residential and medium density housing, and you'd have a stake in what that team turns into.

The technical side is covered. A principal engineer sits alongside you as the technical authority, so your job is the people.

What you'd actually be doing

Coaching engineers through their technical and career development, and planning workload across the team so the delivery holds up.

Working with the account managers on client retention and pipeline, and being a trusted point of contact when clients need something sorted.

Spotting performance, capability or workload problems early, while they're still small.

And reporting on the numbers that matter: quality, delivery and financial targets.

The team you'd be taking on

Most of the engineers are in their first or second job. Quiet, with a bit of banter, a radio on in the background, and a beer fridge that opens about half one on a Friday.

You'd report to the state GM, who doesn't micromanage.

Their one ask is strong, upfront communication. Beyond that, how the team runs is yours to shape.

There's a clear road on from here too, towards manager, state manager or national leadership, and an established leadership development program to get you ready for it.

The honest bit

It's fast. Volume housing is high turnaround, and it ramps up hard at the end of every month as builders chase targets.

Plenty of people say they can handle that pace. The reality is unlike anything else, and managing a team through it is harder than riding it yourself.

The team is junior, so the mentoring load is real and it lands on you.

And it's 80% in the office, because a young team needs its leaders present.

The flexibility is genuine but it isn't two fixed days at home. It's leaving at 2:40 for your kid's sport, working from home through school holidays, or starting at ten and finishing at four when life demands it.

What makes this work for you

You've led, coached or mentored engineers in a structural, civil or housing setting, and you get more satisfaction from someone else's progress than your own drawing board.

You know residential and building engineering delivery well enough to be credible, including the NCC and Australian Standards, even if you're not the one signing off.

You can have a direct conversation about performance without damaging the relationship.

Degree qualified in civil or structural engineering. RPEQ, or working towards it, is well regarded rather than essential.

Real rewards (not just competitive)

- A share in what you build: quarterly bonus up to 12.5% and equity eligibility after twelve months

- Time that's actually yours: purchased annual leave and 12 weeks paid primary carer leave

- Room to grow: a genuine pathway to state and national leadership
