About the service:
n
The Medicare Mental Health Services are free and you do not need an appointment, referral or Medicare card to visit a Medicare Mental Health Centre. The recent services in Devonport, Burnie and Outer Hobart are co-funded by the Australian and Tasmanian Governments, to provide a streamlined approach to support better mental health and social wellbeing across the country.

The service is tailored to the needs of the community in Tasmania and provides a combination of peer-led recovery and clinical support.

The Medicare Mental Health Centre provides a secure, welcoming and supportive environment for people experiencing psychological distress, allowing them to:

Identify alternatives to presenting to the Emergency Department
n
Access support from trained mental health professionals within their community
n
n

Permanent, part-time opportunity available (15 hours per week)

Paying on SCHADs level 4 plus Super

Role Overview:
n
n
Mentor and support consumers in a person-led, strengths focused and recovery-oriented way to support hope and promote resilience, and who models the possibility and longevity of recovery;
n
Build respectful,



professional and appropriate relationships with consumers based around conversations which draw from personal experiences and emotions to support people in their journey of recovery;
n
Inform and contribute to employees learning and service understanding, and advocate on systemic issues impacting people living with mental health issues.

Requirements:
n
n
Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work, or a willingness to complete
n
Lived experience of your own mental illness and a rich understanding of your own processes of recovery and proactivity in managing wellbeing
n
A willingness to purposefully use your own story to help others further their own understanding of recovery
n
Ability to foster and maintain respectful, professional relationships with consumers, staff and organisations
n
Ability to demonstrate initiative and work independently
n
Computer literacy
n
Must be eligible to apply/currently hold a WWCC
n
Must hold/be willing to apply for NDIS worker screening clearance
n
n
