Role overview

The purpose of the Painter role is to prepare, treat, and finish surfaces of buildings and structures by applying paints, varnishes, stains, and protective coatings. The position ensures surfaces are protected against wear, weather, and damage while enhancing their appearance. Painters contribute to construction, renovation, and maintenance projects by delivering skilled surface finishing that meets safety, durability, and client specifications.

Key responsibilities
Prepare surfaces by cleaning, sanding, filling cracks, and applying primers.
Mix and match paints, stains, and varnishes to achieve required colours and finishes.
Apply paint, varnish, and protective coatings to interior and exterior surfaces of buildings and structures.
Use brushes, rollers, and spray equipment to complete painting tasks to industry standards.
Ensure work complies with safety regulations, including handling of materials and use of protective equipment.
Maintain tools, equipment,



and work areas in clean and protected condition.
Interpret work orders and specifications to deliver finishes that meet client requirements.
Assist in estimating materials, time, and costs for painting projects.
Collaborate with team members to complete projects efficiently and on schedule.

Qualifications and skills

Education:
Certificate III in Painting and Decorating or equivalent qualification.
Apprenticeship or formal training in painting and surface finishing is acceptable.

Experience:
Minimum of two years’ practical experience in residential or commercial painting.
Experience with interior and exterior finishes, surface preparation, and protective coatings is highly regarded.

Skills:
Proficiency in preparing surfaces, mixing paints, and applying finishes using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment.
Knowledge of colour matching, decorative techniques, and protective coatings.
