About the Opportunity
A specialist grid-connection advisory firm is seeking an experiencedSenior, Principal or Lead Power Systems Engineerto play a key role in delivering complex renewable energy projects across Australia's National Electricity Market (NEM).
This is a high-impact position working on utility-scalesolar, wind and battery energy storage (BESS) projects, where you will lead grid connection strategies, power system studies and stakeholder engagement across the full project lifecycle—from early development through to commissioning and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and deliverpower system studiesincluding load flow, dynamic (RMS) and EMT modelling (PSSE and PSCAD)
Develop and negotiateGenerator Performance Standards (GPS)and connection applications
Define and implementgrid connection strategiesfor complex and hybrid renewable projects
ManageAEMO generator registration processes (R1 & R2)and associated deliverables
Overseeconcept design developmentand provide balance-of-plant electrical design input
Support or leadcommissioning activities, hold point testing and model validation
Providetechnical leadership and mentorshipto junior engineers
Engage with key stakeholders includingAEMO, NSPs, OEMs and project developers
Advise clients onregulatory requirements, rule changes and ongoing complianceunder the NEM framework
What You'll Be Working On
Utility-scale renewable projects (typically 100 MW to 2 GW+)
Hybrid systems integratingsolar, wind and BESS




Complex grid connection challenges requiringtechnical and regulatory expertise
End-to-end project involvement across:
Pre-feasibility & feasibility studies
Connection applications and GPS negotiation
Construction, commissioning and operational compliance
About You
You'll be a highly capable power systems qualified with a strong understanding of grid connections in the NEM.
Essential:
Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
5–15+ years' experience in power systems engineering (level aligned to Senior / Principal / Lead)
Proven experience ingrid connection studies and GPS development
Strong working knowledge ofPSSE and/or PSCAD
Solid understanding ofAEMO processes, NER requirements and NSP frameworks
Experience working across multi-stakeholder project environments
Highly Regarded:
Experience leading projects or mentoring teams
Commissioning, testing or compliance experience
Exposure tohybrid renewable energy projects
Familiarity with system strength, stability and evolving grid requirements
