Position: Painter Position Type : Full-Time Salary: $79,500 to $81,500 plus superannuation per annum Location: Craigieburn VIC **** Employer : H G Constructions Pty Ltd Trading as Sidhu Family Homes Our client is seeking an experienced Painter to join their team in Craigieburn, Victoria.
The Painter is responsible for preparing and painting the internal and external surfaces of the company's current homes, townhouses and renovation projects to a trade-quality finish, on programme and in line with the client's colour selections.
The role gives the company direct control over the quality and timing of the painting stage, and provides a dedicated tradesperson to complete pre-handover touch-ups, defect rectification and paintwork arising from the three-month maintenance check.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: Planning and site set-up • Reading building plans, specifications, colour selection schedules and job sheets to establish the scope of painting works, the finishes required and the sequence of work for each project.
• Measuring surfaces and calculating the quantities of paint, primers, fillers and sundries needed, and arranging materials through the company's suppliers.
• Setting up ladders, trestles, planks and mobile scaffolds for safe access to ceilings, stairwells, voids, eaves and double storey elevations.
• Laying drop sheets and masking floors, windows, joinery, benchtops, tiling and fixtures so that adjacent finishes are protected from overspray and splatter.
Surface preparation • Preparing new plasterboard, cornice, timber, MDF, fibre-cement, render, brick and metal surfaces by sanding, dusting down, filling nail holes, joints and cracks, caulking gaps and applying suitable sealers and primers.
• On renovation and extension projects, removing old paint and wallpaper by scraping, sanding, stripping or heat, repairing damaged plaster and woodwork, and treating stains, mould and moisture-affected areas before repainting.
• Checking substrates for moisture, surface defects and compatibility with the specified coating system, and reporting work by preceding trades that is not ready for paint.
Paint mixing and application • Selecting the correct coating system for each substrate and exposure,



and preparing paints to the required colour and consistency by mixing, tinting, thinning and adding drying additives as needed.
• Applying sealers, undercoats and finish coats to ceilings, walls, doors, frames, architraves, skirtings, eaves, fascias, cladding, rendered surfaces and garage doors using brushes, rollers and airless spray equipment.
• Applying stains, varnishes and clear finishes to timber features such as staircases, handrails, feature doors, posts and decking, and applying protective and weather-resistant coatings to external surfaces.
• Cutting in cleanly to achieve sharp lines between colours and at junctions with joinery, tiles and fittings, and achieving a uniform finish free of runs, misses, roller marks and visible lap lines.
• Hanging wallpaper and applying feature or textured finishes where specified, matching patterns and trimming edges.
Quality, handover and maintenance • Inspecting completed work against the specification and the company's quality checklist, and carrying out touch-ups and rectification ahead of the client's pre-handover inspection.
• Attending completed homes to repair and repaint settlement cracks, marks and other paint-related items identified at the three-month maintenance check or under warranty.
• Recording colours, products and batch details used on each home so that later touch-ups and maintenance work can be matched.
Equipment, site and safety • Cleaning and maintaining brushes, rollers, spray units and access equipment, keeping work areas tidy and disposing of paint waste, solvents and wash-water in an environmentally responsible manner.
• Working in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act **** (Vic), site rules and Safe Work Method Statements, including for work at heights, and using the required personal protective equipment.
• Handling and storing paints,



solvents and other hazardous substances in line with their Safety Data Sheets, and managing the risks of lead-based paint on older properties.
• Coordinating with the Site Supervisor and with plasterers, carpenters, tilers, electricians and other trades so that painting is sequenced efficiently and completed to the construction programme.
• Guiding and checking the work of apprentices or labourers assisting with painting works.
Requirements: Essential • Certificate III in Painting and Decorating • At least 12 months of relevant working experience • Demonstrated experience as a painter on residential construction and/or renovation projects, including work on new homes through to handover.
• Competence in surface preparation and in brush, roller and airless spray application across interior and exterior coating systems.
• Working knowledge of paint products, colour matching and tinting, and of the practices in AS/NZS **** Guide to the painting of buildings.
• Construction Induction (White Card), or the ability to obtain one before commencing on site.
• Ability to read plans and specifications, work unsupervised and complete work to programme.
• Sound English communication skills for dealing with supervisors, other trades and clients.
• Physical fitness for manual handling, working on ladders and scaffolds, and working outdoors.
Desirable • Current Victorian driver licence and the ability to travel between sites.
• Work safely at heights training and/or an elevating work platform licence.
• Experience in wallpaper hanging, decorative finishes or timber staining and clear finishing.
Working Conditions ·Ordinary hours are 38 per week, generally worked Monday to Friday.
Reasonable additional hours may be required to meet handover dates and are paid in accordance with the Award.
·Work is performed indoors and outdoors on active building sites and in occupied homes, and involves work at heights, repetitive movement and exposure to paints, solvents and dust.
·Travel between the company's sites is required.
Major equipment, access equipment, materials and personal protective equipment are supplied by the company.
