Protecnium is an international firm specializing in engineering and technical services ().
We are currently looking for an LV Electrical Engineer to join our team on a Heavy Civil Construction Project in Cooma, NSW.
-Location: Cooma, NSW (100% On-site).
-Estimated Duration: Initial 1-year contract, with the possibility of at least one additional year based on performance .
In general, when the project ends, we try to relocate the employee to other projects to ensure continuity.
-Summary: The LV Engineer will act as the main constructor's dedicated technical reviewer for low-voltage electrical engineering deliverables and coordinated shop drawings prepared by the appointed surface-buildings electrical subcontractor and the PSC/dry-tunnels shop-drawing consultant.
The role will verify completeness, technical compliance, multidisciplinary interfaces, and design-review closure against the Employer Requirements, relevant Scope of Works, approved IFC/detailed design, specifications, applicable standards and main constructor design procedures.
The position is a design-review role; design production and professional responsibility for submitted designs remain with the appointed delivery parties.
-Packages covered: Surface Buildings Pad Areas: BOP electrical, lighting, small power and equipment earthing, including interfaces for 33 kV feeder extensions, RMU-to-transformer cables and 230 VAC/110 VDC RMU auxiliary cabling; excluding RMU and protection panel design.
PSC Dry Tunnels : Lighting, small power and equipment earthing shop drawings.
Review of shop drawings, BIM coordination, calculations, and engineering submissions only; excludes installation and as-built drawings.
-Responsibilities: Review shop drawings, schematics, SLDs, layouts, panel/DB schedules, wiring, cable, containment, and penetration drawings against approved design and contractual requirements.
Check lighting engineering: normal, essential and emergency lighting, exit signage, lux validation, luminaires, circuits, controls, DALI interfaces, and testing/monitoring arrangements.
Check small power and LV distribution: DBs, outlets, isolators, loads, feeders,



cable sizing, voltage drop, short-circuit calculations, protection coordination and supply interfaces.
Check earthing and bonding: earth bars, conductor sizing/routing, equipment and containment bonding, continuity, and interfaces with primary earthing and underground requirements.
Review containment layouts, support calculations, fixings, penetrations, fire-rating requirements, maintainability, access clearances and multidisciplinary coordination.
Review 33 kV cable-route, joint-bay and RMU/protection-panel auxiliary supply interfaces; escalate HV/protection issues to specialists.
Coordinate BIM/Revit shop-drawing reviews; verify model submissions, LOD and asset-data compliance with project requirements.
Review calculations, datasheets and Material Approval Requests for design compatibility; excluding procurement activities.
Review Safety in Design submissions, risk registers and design-risk closures; participate in SiD reviews.
Prepare and track CRS/ERS comments through to No Objection / Approved for Construction status.
Review RFIs, TQs, interface-control documents and design changes; manage through formal change control.
Monitor deliverables, review registers, missing documents, interface issues and overdue actions; escalate as required.
Attend design reviews, technical clarification meetings and interface coordination with BIM, partners and subcontractors.
-Requirements: A minimum of 5 years of experience in LV electrical design or design-review experience.
Demonstrated experience reviewing electrical detailed engineering and shop drawings on major infrastructure, power, industrial, underground, or similar multidisciplinary projects.
Experience with underground power stations, tunnels,



hydropower facilities and emergency-lighting control/monitoring platforms.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
Competence in LV distribution, lighting and emergency lighting, cable and circuit design, discrimination, fault level, earthing and bonding, and review of electrical calculations.
Working knowledge of AS/NZS ****, AS/NZS **** and AS/NZS **** and relevant project/client specifications.
Ability to review Revit/BIM and AutoCAD-based submissions; sound technical writing and formal comment-closure skills.
Working familiarity with 33 kV cable engineering interfaces and LV/DC auxiliary supplies to RMUs and protection panels.
Experience in Autodesk Construction Cloud/ACC, Revizto, Aconex and project specific KKS/asset coding.
Chartered status or eligibility for Engineers Australia chartership.
