About the role
The role of the intensive care nurse is specialised and collaborative, providing consumer-centred, evidence-based care to critically ill patients with complex and rapidly changing clinical needs.
Working within a multidisciplinary team, intensive care nurses use advanced assessment, problem-solving and reasoning skills to provide safe and effective patient care.
Intensive care nurses play an integral role in establishing therapeutic relationships with patients and their families, communicating effectively with a wide range of stakeholders and contributing to the ongoing assessment, planning and evaluation of care throughout the patient's journey.
Key responsibilities
Provide safe, high-quality, consumer-centred and evidence-based nursing care to patients in the Emergency Department.
Undertake clinical assessment and work collaboratively with patients, families and the multidisciplinary team to plan, deliver and evaluate care.
Communicate effectively with patients, families, colleagues and other health professionals to support quality patient outcomes.
Maintain professional standards, accurate patient documentation and compliance with relevant clinical, safety, regulatory and organisational requirements.
Contribute to a positive team culture, continuous improvement and your own ongoing professional development.
What we're looking for
Registered Nurses with a minimum of 12 months acute nursing experience at the commencement of program
Enthusiastic and eager to learn, you bring a positive attitude, a willingness to learn new skills, and a genuine commitment to providing high-quality patient care.

actively seek opportunities to build your knowledge and skills, and are committed to continually developing as a nurse.

What the Program Offers
6-months temporary part-time 64 hours per fortnight, commencing in January ****
A structured introduction into Intensive Care Nursing
Supernumerary orientation days and supported clinical shifts to gain competency in essential intensive care clinical skills
An prospect to develop skills in assessment and management of adult and paediatric patients
Education and clinical support provided by the dedicated Intensive Care education team
Complete a structured program including assessment components throughout the program.

Barwon Health Intensive Care Unit is a regional tertiary critical care service providing comprehensive care to critically ill adult patients from Geelong and the surrounding areas.
As part of University Hospital Geelong, the ICU delivers advanced medical, surgical and specialty critical care within a modern, multidisciplinary environment, supporting patients with complex and life-threatening conditions while fostering a strong culture of education, research and clinical excellence.
