About the role

We are seeking a Depot Manager to join Altitude Bus Service at our Ravenshoe depot. This is a full-time position that combines operational management responsibilities with active bus driving duties. In this dual role, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of the depot whilst also maintaining your driver responsibilities, ensuring our buses are well-maintained, our schedules are met, and our students receive excellent service. You will be the cornerstone of our Ravenshoe operation, providing leadership to a small team while demonstrating a strong commitment to safety and service standards.

Key responsibilities

- Managing depot operations, including scheduling, maintenance coordination, and resource allocation

- Overseeing vehicle maintenance schedules and ensuring all buses meet safety and compliance standards, supported by our fleet manager.

- Conducting pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and reporting any issues promptly

- Operating bus routes safely and professionally, adhering to all traffic laws and company policies

- Maintaining accurate records of vehicle maintenance, driver logs, and operational data

- Supervising and mentoring depot staff, fostering a culture of safety and professionalism

- Ensuring compliance with relevant transport regulations, including fatigue management and vehicle safety standards

- Managing fuel efficiency and depot resources cost-effectively





- Responding to operational challenges and resolving issues in a timely manner

- Communicating effectively with senior management regarding depot performance and any concerns

- Promoting excellent customer service and representing Altitude Bus Service professionally

What we're looking for

- A current heavy vehicle driver's licence (MR minimum) with a clean driving record

- Proven experience as a bus driver with a strong safety record

- Preffered depot management or supervisory experience in the transport industry

- Knowledge of vehicle maintenance and compliance with transport safety regulations

- Strong organisational and time management skills

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a team

- Proficiency with computer systems and record-keeping software

- A commitment to health and safety practices and procedures

- The ability to work independently and make sound decisions with guidance from owner operator.

- A customer-focused approach and professional demeanour

- Preferably, experience in a rural or regional transport environment

This position is salaried is open to working your own hours as required to get the job done. Roughly 30-38 hours a week during school terms and 15-20 hours a week during school holidays (cleaning, movement of buses for maintenance, training). You will need to drive a school bus as needed as a backup driver.

This position requires processing of paperwork via computer, scanning, printing and emailingso requires reasonable ability to use a computer.

Training and equipment will be provided to the right candidate, but a home office will be required as we do not have an onsite office.
