6 months fixed-term full-time contract (Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm)

Salary dependent upon skills, experience and qualifications

A Wonderful Opportunity to Join a Vital Team Focused on Early Childhood Development!

Winnunga Nimmityjah Aboriginal Health & Community Services is Canberra’s only Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service. Located in the heart of Canberra, we provide trusted holistic healthcare to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities of the ACT and surrounding areas.

The Connected Beginnings Program aims to give Indigenous children the best possible start before they begin school. This initiative contributes to reducing the difference in school readiness and education outcomes between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal children.

We need a passionate, skilled individual to help us make a real difference!

About the Role

As the Community Coordinator, you will play a key role in planning and coordinating playgroups and community engagement activities to enhance early childhood development. You will work closely with the Connected Beginnings Lead to develop a service map, promote collaboration among service providers, and ensure culturally appropriate, integrated support for children and families.

Key Responsibilities

- Plan, coordinate, and deliver playgroups and other early childhood engagement programs.
- Develop and maintain a service map of early childhood, health, education, and family support services in Canberra and surrounding areas.
- Work with service providers to promote collaboration, information sharing, and culturally responsive practices.

- Organize workshops and community events to enhance early years support.
- Work collaboratively in a small, highly functional team to support program objectives.

About You

- Background and qualifications in Early Childhood Education, with strong understanding and experience with early childhood development and learning in the 0 – 5 age group.
- Experience in planning and delivering early childhood programs, such as playgroups.
- Some understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child health and education.
- Ability to work with cultural experts to incorporate culturally appropriate practices and community engagement.
- Excellent coordination and communication skills to foster collaboration.

We welcome applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, however this position is open to all applicants, so we welcome people who are interested in contributing to Indigenous health and education in early childhood and have the relevant experience and skills.

What We Offer

- A culturally safe and supportive workplace
- Salary packaging benefits (our not-for-profit status makes our employees eligible for an additional tax-free component which increases your take-home pay)
- Career development opportunities
- Free parking and free gym membership.
- Meaningful work supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients, families and community.

This is a 6-month contract role, with the possibility of extension subject to organisational requirements and operational needs at the conclusion of the initial contract period.
