Do you have a passion for bushland management, ecological restoration and community engagement? Maroondah City Council is seeking an experienced professional to lead revegetation, weed control and ecological restoration programs across our reserves.
Reporting to the Team Leader Bushland Management, you’ll supervise staff and contractors, support community groups, volunteers and schools, and help deliver Council’s bushland maintenance and environmental engagement programs.
Key responsibilities:
- Plan, coordinate and implement cyclical maintenance, revegetation, weed control and ecological restoration programs.
- Supervise, lead and mentor team members and contractors, ensuring work programs are delivered safely, effectively and in accordance with Council policies, procedures and environmental objectives.
- Participate in the delivery of reserve vegetation management activities and incorporate community group activities into scheduled work programs.
- Support the development and implementation of activities for environmental community groups, volunteers and schools.
- Build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including community groups, schools, volunteers, contractors and the wider community.
- Assist with budget planning, scheduling, monitoring and evaluation of bushland management programs
The successful candidate will have:
- Associate Diploma or TAFE certificate in the relevant field or equivalent qualification.
- Demonstrated knowledge of indigenous flora, weed species.
- Experience in bushland management and revegetation/regeneration of environmentally sensitive areas.
- Experience in developing and implementing cyclical bushland /revegetation maintenance programs.
- Demonstrated ability to organise and manage staff, contractors, equipment and work programs.
- Experience supporting environmental community groups or volunteer ‘Friends’ groups including coordinating plant supply and equipment.
- Experience developing, managing and motivating staff, preferably in an outdoor team environment.
- Effective collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of internal stakeholders (i.e. management and employees) and external stakeholders.
- A solid commitment to workplace safety, environmental stewardship and positive community outcomes.
