ABOUT THE JOB
Kick-start your career with Lake Macquarie City Council as a Trainee Administration Officer in our Environmental Systems and Assets departments. This is an exciting opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience while making a real difference to the Lake Macquarie community. As a key member of the team, you'll be at the centre of the departments, supporting a diverse range of business areas and helping deliver exceptional customer service.
While working with an experienced and supportive team, you'll complete a Certificate IV in Business Administration through online study with the Australian College of Commerce and Management, building practical skills in administration, customer service, stakeholder engagement, records management, and business operations.
In this role, we will support you to:
- Deliver outstanding customer service by responding to enquiries, requests and correspondence in a professional and timely manner.
- Manage and process customer requests through Council's customer request management system.
- Provide administrative support including processing invoices and requisitions, preparing correspondence and reports, maintaining systems, and coordinating documentation.
- Assist with the distribution of incoming correspondence and ensure workflows are directed to the appropriate teams.
- Coordinate meetings, prepare agendas, and record minutes.
- Support the planning and delivery of workshops, training sessions, events and departmental activities.
- Act as the department's Authority and TRIM Champion,
supporting effective records and information management.
- Work collaboratively across the Environmental Systems and Assets departments and contribute to achieving team and organisational objectives.
The position is located at councils’ temporary office in Wallsend and may involve travel to multiple areas within Lake Macquarie.

ABOUT YOU
We're looking for enthusiastic people who are ready to learn, grow and make a positive impact in the community. You will have:
- Completed Year 12 (or equivalent) with satisfactory results in English and Mathematics.
- A passion for providing outstanding customer service and creating positive experiences for others.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to build positive relationships with a wide range of people.
- Sound computer literacy and a willingness to learn new digital systems,
software and technologies.
- Enjoy working as part of a supportive team and contributing to shared goals.
- A willingness to complete a Certificate IV in Business Administration and commitment to completing all training and study requirements.
Please note: Candidates who have already completed a Certificate IV in Business, or a higher-level qualification, are not be eligible for this traineeship.
