Position Details

Mater Dei College has the opportunity for a full-time, ongoing Home Economics Teacher to become an integral part of the College’s Home Economics Learning Area, commencing 1 January 2027.

We are seeking a vibrant, passionate, and confident individual who is committed to helping our students reach their full potential.

Responsibilities The Home Economics Teacher will be responsible for a variety of tasks within the Home Economics Learning Area that are inclusive of, but not limited to:

- Implementing effective teaching strategies to engage and challenge students of varying abilities to achieve specific learning outcomes.

- Fostering a stimulating, encouraging and inclusive classroom environment designed to support student growth.

- Delivering engaging Home Economics curriculum, guiding students through key concepts whole developing their practical skills, creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking in areas such as food and nutrition, textiles, children, family and the community.

- Programming for classes within the Home Economics Learning Area and thoroughly planning for each lesson.

- Assessing the performance of students in accordance with College procedures and where required, maintaining contact with parents regarding the performance and wellbeing of students.

- Meeting the deadlines set by the Head of Learning Area and College Executive

Selection Criteria The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a high level of professionalism whilst supporting the Catholic ethos and values of the College.

You Will

- Have the ability to teach across all year levels (Years 7–12).

- Hold a tertiary qualification in Secondary Education,



preferably with a specialisation in Home Economics.

- A comprehensive understanding of the Western Australian Curriculum.

- Be committed to creating engaging, inclusive, and high-quality learning experiences that cater to a range of student abilities.

- Show strong organisational and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to collaborate with colleagues.

- Possess excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.

- Be dedicated to ongoing professional growth.

- Actively support and contribute to the co-curricular life of the College.

Qualifications

Qualifications Required

- Bachelor’s degree in Education, preferably in Home Economics.

- Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary) or equivalent.

Terms of Employment

- Hold a current registration with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia.

- Hold a current Working with Children Check (WWC).

- Hold, or be working towards completion of, Accreditation to Teach in a Catholic School, Accreditation to Teach Religious Education or Accreditation for Leadership in Catholic Schools.

- Annually complete Child Protection Procedures and Mandatory Reporting Training.

High Desirable

- Knowledge of the Western Australian Curriculum and WACE courses.

- An understanding of current educational perspectives.

- Experience working with high school students.

- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively with students, colleagues, parents/guardians and external partners.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Solid time management and organisational skills.

- Strong problem solving and critical thinking abilities.
