Position Summary:

The Software Engineer – Capability is responsible for designing, building and delivering new product capabilities across Obzervr’s software platform.

Working in a cross-functional squad, this role takes product problems and high-level requirements and turns them into practical software solutions. This includes clarifying the problem, understanding the relevant technical and product domain, shaping and breaking down the solution, implementing it, and driving it through verification and release.

The role requires an engineer who is comfortable with ambiguity, can work independently in unfamiliar areas, collaborates effectively with Product, QA and other stakeholders, and maintains momentum from idea through to production.

AI-assisted development is a normal part of engineering at Obzervr. Engineers are expected to use AI effectively to accelerate their work while retaining full understanding, judgement and ownership of what they produce.

Key Responsibilities:

- Take ownership of product capabilities and features from initial problem through to production delivery.
- Work with Product, QA and engineering stakeholders to clarify requirements, identify assumptions and shape practical solutions.
- Break complex work into achievable increments, identify dependencies and risks, and communicate changes that may affect delivery.
- Design, implement, test and ship high-quality, maintainable software across Obzervr’s platform.
- Understand existing architecture, code and domain context before making significant changes.
- Make pragmatic technical decisions considering quality, maintainability, performance, security and reliability.
- Proactively investigate unfamiliar areas, resolve blockers and keep work moving without requiring continual task-level direction.
- Participate in code reviews, technical discussions and continuous improvement of engineering practices.
- Use AI-assisted tools for activities such as codebase exploration, implementation, testing, debugging and documentation.




- Critically evaluate and verify AI-generated work, and be able to explain, debug and extend the resulting solution independently.

Required Qualifications:

- Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience building production software.
- Demonstrated ability to take high-level or incomplete requirements and turn them into working solutions.
- Ability to understand unfamiliar systems and solve problems independently.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience using modern AI-assisted development tools, or demonstrated ability to adopt them quickly.
- Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience in the mining, field operations, or industrial sectors
- Our current technology stack includes ASP.NET Core, Angular/TypeScript, MS SQL, cloud services and mobile applications. Experience with this exact stack is not a strict requirement; we care more about strong software engineering fundamentals and the ability to learn unfamiliar technologies quickly.
- Experience in an early-stage or growing company, startup, or SaaS environment is highly regarded. Experience with cloud platforms or mobile application development is also a plus.
