We’re looking for an experienced and compassionate AOD & Co-occurring Needs Clinician to join our multidisciplinary team and provide integrated, community-based support to people experiencing alcohol and other drug use, mental health concerns and other complex or co-occurring needs.

This is a diverse role where you’ll combine assessment, counselling, case management, care coordination, group facilitation and referral support, working closely with clients, families, colleagues and external services to help people achieve their health and wellbeing goals.

About the Role

This is a fixed-term contract until 30 June 2027, with the potential for extension subject to operational needs and funding. The position is offered on a full-time basis, with part-time hours also available for the right applicant.

The position will be offered at CSE Level 4–5, depending on the successful applicant’s qualifications, skills and experience.

Working within a multidisciplinary team, you’ll provide person-centred and recovery-oriented support to clients and their families across a range of needs and circumstances.

Using a ‘no wrong door’ and whole-of-agency approach, you’ll work collaboratively to ensure people can access the right support at the right time. This may include connecting clients with withdrawal services, primary health care, mental health support, residential treatment, justice services and other community-based supports.

You’ll work with clients to understand their individual circumstances, identify goals and develop treatment and support plans that reflect what matters to them.

The role provides an opportunity to work across a stepped model of care, from brief interventions and information through to more intensive case management, counselling and care coordination.

What You’ll Do

- Provide integrated assessment, counselling, case management, care coordination and support to clients and their families.
- Work with people experiencing AOD use, mental health concerns and other complex or co-occurring needs.
- Develop individual treatment and support plans in collaboration with clients.
- Provide evidence-based interventions, harm minimisation education and practical support.
- Facilitate warm referrals and coordinate access to appropriate health, treatment and community services.
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, participating in care reviews, shared-care meetings and clinical reflections.
- Build strong relationships with AOD, mental health, primary health, emergency, justice and community service providers.
- Provide culturally responsive and inclusive services to clients, families and communities.
- Support clients to navigate services and strengthen continuity of care across the broader health and community system.




- Facilitate groups and contribute to therapeutic and psychoeducational programs where required.
- Complete routine outcomes measurement and maintain accurate service data.
- Maintain high-quality client records, case notes, reports, support letters and other documentation.
- Maintain professional standards around confidentiality, boundaries and ethical practice.
- Contribute to quality improvement, safety and service development initiatives.
- Participate in supervision, professional development, staff meetings and performance review processes.
- Provide support, mentoring and guidance to colleagues and assist the Team Leader and Coordinator as required.

About You We’re looking for someone who brings strong interpersonal skills, sound clinical judgement and a genuine commitment to working with people experiencing complex and co-occurring needs.

You’ll have

- A relevant qualification in Counselling, Social Work, Psychology, Nursing or another relevant discipline.
- A Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drug Work and Mental Health, or willingness to obtain relevant qualifications within the first 12 months.
- Experience working in health or community services with people experiencing complex and co-occurring needs.
- A strong understanding of the impacts of AOD use and mental health concerns, including associated physical health, social and other co-morbidities.
- Knowledge of contemporary mental health care and evidence-based AOD treatment approaches.
- Knowledge of harm minimisation, case management, care coordination and support strategies.
- Experience or demonstrated capacity to work using trauma-informed, person-centred and recovery-oriented approaches.
- An understanding of the social determinants of health and their impact on people experiencing vulnerability and disadvantage.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to support people presenting in distress.
- The ability to develop collaborative relationships with internal programs, external agencies and community partners.
- An understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and other priority population groups, and the ability to work respectfully and competently in cross-cultural environments.
- Strong organisational skills, initiative and the ability to work both autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Confidence using client information management systems and associated software.
- A strong understanding of professional boundaries, confidentiality, ethical practice and organisational policies and procedures.
- Clinical registration or accreditation with a relevant professional body such as AASW, APS, PACFA or ACA is desirable.
- Experience working in the AOD sector is desirable.

Essential Requirements

- Current Driver’s Licence.
- Current First Aid Certificate, or willingness to obtain.
- Satisfactory AFP National Police Check.
- Current NSW Working With Children Check.
- Australian Citizenship or suitable rights to work in Australia.
- Willingness to travel regularly throughout the NSW region and to the ACT.
- Willingness to undertake a Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drug Work if required.
