The Agency manages budget estimates, contributes to policy costings for cabinet submissions and New Policy Proposals (NPPs), and prepares budget publications including the Portfolio Budget Statements (PBS) and Additional Estimates Statements (PAES).
The Opportunity
This is a permanent APS6 chance for a current ongoing Australian Public Service employee seeking a Section 26 transfer at level. You'll join the Agency's Budgets team as an External Budget Officer, working on some of the highest-profile financial processes in the Commonwealth's calendar.
- Direct exposure to the Commonwealth Budget process, from estimates through to Cabinet costings and Budget publications
- Work closely with senior executives and portfolio Ministers' offices on Budget-related briefings
- A genuine pathway to build deep budget and estimates expertise within a highly regarded agency
The Role As an External Budget Officer, you'll manage a portfolio of budget estimates work while supporting the wider team through peak budget periods.
- Prepare and review estimates models to support the budget estimates
- Maintain timely and accurate estimates data in budget systems, including the Central Budget Management System (CBMS) and the Agency's internal TM1 system
- Assist business areas with the development of policy costings for Cabinet Submissions and NPPs
- Provide advice to business areas and executives on the Commonwealth Budget process
- Contribute to the preparation of Budget publications, including the PBS and PAES
- Assist with briefing senior executives and Ministers on budget process, estimates and costing issues
- Work with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including the Department of Finance
The Ideal Person You will bring the following skills and experience:
- Professional accounting qualifications including progression towards CA or CPA
- Demonstrated analytical skills, including strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Confident, effective written and verbal communication skills
- The capacity to work effectively in a high-tempo, demanding environment
- Previous experience in external budgets or a financial accounting role
Salary
- $105k - $115k +Super
- Permanent placement at the APS6 classification via a Section 26 transfer
- Based in Canberra, ACT
