Fintran is seeking an experienced Assistant Accountant to join our team in Port Melbourne, reporting directly to our Head of Finance.

Founded in 2008 to provide fumigation services to the Australian grain export industry, Fintran pioneered the fumigation of Australian grain onboard ships. Since inception, Fintran has continued to expand its services by developing innovative treatment solutions. From our beginnings servicing the grain industry, our services have expanded to include the breakbulk and RORO sectors.

We provide a comprehensive range of biosecurity services to importers and exporters who ship cargo around the globe. Fintran is 100% Australian owned and is certified to the International Standards of Quality, Safety and Environmental Management.

About the opportunity

This is a broad accounting role within a growing, multi-entity business not a narrowly focused accounts payable or transactional position.

You will support financial reporting, reconciliations, compliance, budgeting, payroll-related reporting, analysis and operational finance. Working closely with an experienced Head of Finance, you will have the opportunity to strengthen your technical skills and take on greater responsibility as you develop in the role.

What you’ll be responsible for

- Assisting with monthly, quarterly and year-end financial reporting
- Preparing balance sheet, bank and general ledger reconciliations
- Supporting BAS, PAYGW, PAYGI and payroll tax obligations
- Managing accounts payable,



supplier payments and customer invoicing
- Assisting with debtor management and account follow-up
- Reconciling employee credit cards, receipts and spending reports
- Maintaining fixed asset registers and accurate records across multiple entities
- Completing stock reconciliations and investigating stocktake variances
- Supporting budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis
- Identifying opportunities to improve finance processes and reporting

What we’re looking for

- Previous experience in an Assistant Accountant or similar accounting role
- A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline
- Have a CA or CPA qualification or currently studying towards
- Practical experience with reconciliations, month-end processes and financial reporting
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Experience using Xero
- Strong attention to detail and a genuine commitment to accuracy
- The ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Sound judgement when handling confidential information
