Automotive Trades Assistant – Gearbox, Diff & Component Rebuilds

Kotara, Newcastle NSW Full Time – Monday to Friday, 7:00am–4:00pm

Entry-level automotive role with hands-on training and a potential apprenticeship pathway.

All Four x 4 is looking for an Automotive Trades Assistant to join our Gearbox, Differential & Component Rebuilds Team at Kotara.

This is an entry-level automotive role and would suit someone with good hands-on mechanical ability who is looking to build a long-term career in the automotive industry.

You do not need previous automotive industry experience or a trade qualification. What is important is that you are mechanically minded, enjoy pulling things apart and understanding how they work, and can demonstrate practical mechanical experience. This may have come from working on your own cars, motorbikes, 4WDs, machinery or other mechanical projects.

For the right person, there is also the opportunity for this role to develop into a Light Vehicle Mechanic apprenticeship.

What your day-to-day will involve

Working alongside our experienced Component Rebuilds Team, your role will include:

- Disassembling gearboxes, transfer cases, differentials and other automotive components
- Cleaning and preparing components for inspection and rebuilding
- Sandblasting, cleaning and painting components
- Assisting with the inspection and assessment of dismantled parts
- Sorting, identifying and maintaining component and parts stock
- Preparing components and work areas for our rebuild technicians
- Maintaining a clean, organised and efficient rebuilds room
- Assisting the team with general workshop and component rebuild activities





You will receive hands-on training from experienced technicians and progressively learn more about gearbox, differential and driveline component rebuilding.

What we’re looking for

This role would suit someone who:
- Has good practical mechanical aptitude
- Has some hands-on experience working on cars, motorbikes, machinery or similar, either through work or as a hobby
- Enjoys mechanical work and learning how components operate
- Has strong attention to detail and takes pride in doing a job properly
- Is reliable and turns up ready to work
- Keeps their tools and work area clean and organised
- Can follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team
- Holds a current Australian Driver’s Licence
- Has a minimum Year 10 School Certificate or equivalent
- Has their own basic hand tools

Previous automotive industry experience would be an advantage, but is not required.

With over 40 years in operation, we continue to grow as demand increases for our New, Used and Reconditioned 4WD Parts. Based in Newcastle, we employ over 100 people across our group and carry one of Australia’s largest ranges of 4WD parts across most makes and models.

Our Gearbox & Differential Rebuilds Team works on a wide variety of 4WD components, from basic strip, assessment and overhaul work through to more complex component diagnosis and rebuilding. Our rebuilds facility is equipped with a large range of specialised tooling, along with our own onsite machine shop with lathes, milling machines and machine-shop tooling. This allows our team to manufacture specialised tools in-house as well as reproduce some components that are no longer available.
