About the role An experienced Civil and Family Law Solicitor position suited to a capable and commercially minded solicitor with approximately 4–6 years post-admission experience, who has substantive experience across both civil litigation and family law and is confident managing matters with a high degree of autonomy. The successful candidate will work across a varied and interesting caseload and will have direct responsibility for the day-to-day conduct of files, client management, drafting, negotiations and Court preparation. This is not an entry-level position.
The role offers exposure to complex and varied matters, significant client contact, Court work and the opportunity to play an important role within a busy and expanding practice.
Key responsibilities
- Managing civil litigation and family law matters from initial instructions through to resolution.
- Appearing in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, Local Court, District Court and Supreme Court as appropriate.
- Drafting pleadings, affidavits, applications, responses, notices of motion, submissions, consent orders, correspondence, and other Court documents.
- Conducting family law matters involving parenting, property settlement, financial disputes, interim applications, and related issues.
- Conducting civil and commercial disputes, including contractual disputes,
debt recovery, property disputes, and general litigation.
- Preparing matters for interim and final hearings, mediations, conciliation conferences, and other dispute resolution processes.
- Briefing and working closely with Counsel and experts.
- Reviewing and analysing evidence, financial material, disclosure, and subpoena material.
- Providing clear, practical, and commercially sensible advice to clients.
- Conducting settlement negotiations and assisting clients to achieve commercial outcomes where appropriate.
About you
- 4–6 years PAE, although candidates with comparable experience will be considered.
- Demonstrated experience in both civil litigation and family law.
- A current Australian practising certificate.
- Robust drafting and advocacy skills.
- Sound knowledge of Court procedure and the ability to independently progress litigation.
- Experience managing a substantial caseload and competing deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Confidence dealing directly with clients, solicitors, Counsel and other stakeholders.
- The ability to identify legal and commercial issues quickly and develop an appropriate strategy.
- A practical, solutions-focused approach to litigation.
