Due to our current growth and recent project awards, we are seeking to appoint a permanent Commercial Manager to lead the commercial function of a major civil infrastructure project, based at our Headquarters in Doncaster The Commercial Manger will be responsible for leading the commercial and financial management of a large-scale civil infrastructure project, from head contract administration through to practical completion. The role ensures contractual compliance, cost control, risk management, and commercial performance in line with project objectives, company governance, and client requirements.
The initial assignment for this role will be to lead the commercial management function on a major civil infrastructure project in Papua New Guinea. Experience working on projects in PNG, or under collaborative delivery models such as Incentivised Target Cost (ITC) arrangements, would be highly regarded.
What you will do
As a successful candidate, you will demonstrate the following:
- Lead and support a team of commercial professionals to deliver key project milestones across design and construction delivery phases.
- Manage head contract risk, including identification, mitigation and commercial optimisation opportunities.
- Identify, assess and manage contractual and commercial risks and opportunities across head contracts, subcontracts and, when required, tenders.
- Develop and implement subcontracting strategies aligned with project delivery and head contract requirements.
- Act as a key commercial interface with clients and senior stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures and delegated authorities
- Support project leadership in commercial discussions, negotiations and governance forums.
- Maintain robust contract/risk registers, and commercial records.
- Lead preparation, submission and negotiation of progress claims, variations and commercial claims; review/approve subcontractor claims and variations.
What do you bring? In addition to the above, we require an experienced individual with;
- Minimum 10 years demonstrated experience in commercial or contracts management within civil construction, ideally on infrastructure projects such as roads, pipelines, oil, gas, renewables or utilities.
- Demonstrated experience managing the commercial aspects of large-scale or complex construction projects.
- Proven experience administering head contracts and managing subcontractor commercial arrangements.
- Highly skilled in stakeholder engagement and relationship management, including working with clients, subcontractors, and executive teams to balance commercial, compliance, and people outcomes.
- Sound knowledge of relevant legislation and the legislative framework, government policies and reforms.
- Nationally Australian recognised tertiary qualifications; in Commerce, Law, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying or equivalent.
