About the Role

Wellington Shire Council is looking for an experienced and passionate Communications and Engagement Advisor to join our Customer and Communications team on a two-year fixed term contract.

This is an exciting chance to lead strategic communications and community engagement initiatives that help inform, connect and involve our communities in Council decisions, projects and priorities.

Reporting to the Manager Customer and Communications, you will work closely with Councillors, staff, government agencies, stakeholders and the community to deliver meaningful engagement outcomes and high-impact communications.

As Communications and Engagement Advisor, you will:

- Lead the development and delivery of strategic communication and engagement plans.
- Provide expert advice and leadership on community engagement across Council.
- Design and deliver communication campaigns for key projects and initiatives.
- Manage and support Council's engagement platforms and processes.
- Build strong relationships with media, community groups and stakeholders.
- Analyse engagement outcomes and use insights to improve future approaches.
- Support emergency communications and media responses when required.
- Lead a Communications and Engagement Officer and contribute to a collaborative, high-performing team.

About You

You will bring

- Qualifications in communications, community engagement, social science or a related field, or significant equivalent experience.
- Experience delivering strategic communication and stakeholder engagement programs.
- Strong writing, presentation and facilitation skills.
- Knowledge of community engagement principles and frameworks,



including IAP2, or a willingness to obtain.
- The ability to build trusted relationships and influence outcomes across diverse stakeholder groups.
- Experience working in a government or public sector environment will be highly regarded.
