The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Control Systems Lead (OT/SCADA) to take ownership of critical operational technology systems that underpin safe, reliable and efficient plant operations. Reporting to our Head of IT/OT, this is a key technical leadership role responsible for the delivery, commissioning, ongoing operation and continuous improvement of Lindian's PLC, SCADA and plant control network environments across our operations in Malawi and Kazakhstan.
About the Role
You will play a pivotal role in transitioning the control system from project delivery into steady-state operations, ensuring Lindian develops strong in-house capability and reduces reliance on external integrators. This is a hands-on prospect for a control systems professional who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, influencing operational outcomes and working across the full project lifecycle.
You will collaborate closely with the Head of IT/OT, Operations and Maintenance teams, Electrical & Instrumentation personnel, Cyber Security Lead, system integrators, OEMs and site-based technicians.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery, commissioning and handover of PLC, SCADA and plant control systems.
- Manage system integrator, vendor and OEM relationships across project delivery and operations.
- Review control philosophies, functional descriptions, interlocks, control logic and related documentation.
- Support FAT, SAT, commissioning, plant start-up and operational handover activities.
- Maintain and improve PLC, SCADA and OT network performance, reliability and cybersecurity controls.
- Troubleshoot and modify control system software to resolve operational issues and improve plant performance.
- Develop documentation, standards, change management processes and provide technical support to site teams.
About You
- Ability and willingness to travel internationally, including regular travel to Malawi.
- Relevant engineering degree or electrical/instrumentation trade qualification supported by substantial industry experience.
- Minimum 7 years' experience in control systems roles within mining, mineral processing or heavy industrial environments.
- Strong hands-on PLC programming, SCADA/HMI configuration, fault finding and software modification experience.
- Sound understanding of control philosophies, interlocks, cause and effect matrices, functional safety and commissioning activities.
- Working knowledge of industrial networking technologies such as EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP, PROFINET and OPC UA.
- Ability to manage vendors, contractors and system integrators while maintaining strong documentation and change control practices.
- Ignition SCADA experience or certification. (Highly Regarded)
- Vendor training on major PLC platforms such as Rockwell, Siemens or Schneider. (Highly Regarded)
- Experience with process historians, plant data systems, remote operations or rare earths/mining operations. (Highly Regarded)

What Success Looks Like
Within your first 12 months, you will have:
- Successfully supported the commissioning and operational handover of core PLC, SCADA and control network systems.
- Established effective governance for control system documentation, software version control and management of change processes.
- Built strong working relationships with site operations, maintenance teams, system integrators and OEM partners.
- Improved control system reliability through proactive fault resolution, optimisation and lifecycle management initiatives.
- Developed the capability of site technicians through structured mentoring, technical support and knowledge transfer.
- Implemented scalable OT support practices that reduce operational risk and support long-term business growth.
