About the role
KingKids Clyde North is looking for a warm, reliable and enthusiastic Cook’s Assistant to join our team and support the preparation of fresh, nutritious meals for our children. This position will initially be casual, with the chance to transition to permanent part-time employment in the future.
We understand that the right working hours can make all the difference. There is flexibility around the daily hours, and we’re happy to discuss a schedule that works for both you and our team.
At KingKids, our kitchen is an key part of our service. Working alongside our Cook, you’ll help prepare meals and snacks, maintain a beautifully clean and organised kitchen, manage dishes and cleaning throughout the day, and support the safe preparation and distribution of food across the service.
It’s also much more than working behind the scenes. You’ll be part of the KingKids community, building positive relationships with children, educators and families and contributing to an environment where children feel safe, welcomed and cared for.
Key responsibilities
- Assist the Cook with preparing fresh, nutritious meals and snacks for children
- Support food preparation, portioning and distribution of meals
- Assist with preparing meals for individual allergies, dietary requirements and cultural preferences under the direction of the Cook
- Follow allergy and anaphylaxis procedures and strict controls to prevent cross-contamination
- Complete dishes and kitchen cleaning throughout the day
- Maintain a clean, organised and hygienic kitchen environment
- Follow safe food handling, preparation, storage and hygiene practices
- Assist with unpacking, organising and rotating kitchen supplies
- Work collaboratively with the Cook, educators and leadership team
- Build warm and respectful relationships with children and the wider KingKids community
- Understand and uphold the Victorian Child Safe Standards and KingKids’ child safety policies and procedures
- Contribute to a culture where the safety, wellbeing and best interests of children are always prioritised
About you
We’re looking for someone who is willing to get involved, takes pride in their work and understands just how important a clean, safe and well-organised kitchen is within an early learning service.
You will be
- Reliable, organised and able to work efficiently as part of a team
- Comfortable assisting with food preparation and kitchen duties
- Committed to maintaining excellent standards of cleanliness and hygiene
- Confident following instructions relating to allergies, dietary requirements and safe food handling
- Warm, friendly and approachable with children, families and educators
- Respectful and appreciative of different cultures, backgrounds and food traditions
- Willing to learn and support the Cook wherever needed
- Committed to creating a safe, inclusive and child-focused environment
- Willing to actively uphold KingKids’ commitment to child safety
Previous experience working in a commercial kitchen, early childhood service, school, aged care or similar environment would be highly regarded, but we’re also open to the right person who is reliable, enthusiastic and willing to learn.
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you will need:
- A current Working with Children Check, or willingness to obtain one prior to commencing
- Food Handling/Food Safety training, or willingness to obtain this
- An understanding of the importance of allergy, anaphylaxis and dietary management
- A commitment to KingKids’ child safety requirements, policies and procedures
- Availability to work five days per week
