Data Engineers – Data Acquisition & Data Product Development

About the Roles

We are seeking experienced Data Engineers to join a large-scale technology environment supporting the development, integration and delivery of data capabilities. There are two Data Engineering opportunities available, offering the chance to work across different areas of the data lifecycle:

- Data Acquisition Data Engineer
- Data Product Development Data Engineer

Both roles are hands-on and require strong engineering capability, experience working with modern data technologies, and the ability to operate within a secure enterprise environment. Due to the nature of the environment, successful candidates will be required to work onsite at a secure Canberra/Melbourne-based establishment 3–5 days per week, depending on the engagement requirements.

1. Data Acquisition Data Engineer

This role focuses on data acquisition, ingestion and integration, supporting the movement and management of data across enterprise data environments.

Essential Skills & Experience

- 1+ years' hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory
- 1+ years' experience with Apache NiFi
- Strong SQL Server experience
- Experience working with data ingestion and integration processes
- NV1 security clearance or higher

Desirable

- NV2 security clearance
- Melbourne-based
- Azure Cloud experience
- Azure DevOps experience
- Experience with Apache Iceberg
- Exposure to Cloudera

2. Data Product Development Data Engineer

This role focuses on data product development and engineering, working with contemporary data processing technologies to develop and deliver scalable data solutions.

Essential Skills & Experience

- 1+ years' hands-on experience with Apache Spark using Python




- 1+ years' experience with Azure DevOps
- 1+ years' experience with Apache NiFi
- Experience with Apache Iceberg
- NV1 security clearance or higher

Desirable

- NV2 security clearance
- Melbourne-based
- Exposure to Cloudera
- Microsoft SQL Server experience
- Azure Cloud experience

About You

We're looking for Data Engineers who are technically capable, collaborative and comfortable working within complex and security-conscious environments.

You will ideally have

- Strong hands-on data engineering experience
- Experience working across data ingestion, integration or data product development
- The ability to work effectively within established engineering and delivery practices
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Good communication and documentation skills
- The ability to work onsite as required within a secure environment

Experience working in Defence, Federal Government or other highly regulated environments will be highly regarded.

Security & Location Requirements

- Active NV1 security clearance or higher is mandatory.
- Candidates with NV2 clearance are highly desirable.
- Successful candidates must be available to work onsite 3–5 days per week at a secure establishment.
- Melbourne-based candidates are preferred; candidates from other locations may be considered depending on project requirements.
