The Role

Join the ABC's Canberra Parliament House bureau and play a key role in driving Australia's political coverage. You'll lead the delivery of timely, original and impactful journalism that informs and engages audiences across digital, audio, video and broadcast platforms. Working at the heart of the nation's political landscape, you'll help uncover the stories that matter most to Australians, ensuring our coverage is accurate, relevant and innovative.

The Job

- Commission and lead timely, accurate, impartial breaking news and daily stories across all platforms for national audiences.
- Set the daily news agenda, act as one of the primary editorial referral points for all CPH content.
- Ensure video and audio output meets ABC Editorial Policies and community expectations.
- Use audience data and analytics to guide editorial, commissioning and distribution decisions.
- Collaborate across ABC News to meet audience needs on all platforms.
- Support the Editor, Politics to use resources efficiently and meet budget requirements.
- Manage and develop Parliament House bureau staff through feedback and performance
- Contribute to leadership of the National and International newsroom team.
- Drive creative content creation and journalism for all audiences.
- Foster collaboration and open communication between digital and multiplatform teams.
- Produce stories relevant to diverse Australian audiences across culture, geography and socio‑economic backgrounds

About You

- Outstanding knowledge of federal politics, national affairs, economics, and how government works.
- Proven track record leading and managing multi-disciplinary teams to deliver strategic outcomes.
- High-level editorial leadership, especially in video and audio content.
- Skilled at using audience data and trends to shape content for digital and broadcast platforms.
- Strong ability to manage, influence, and develop staff for high performance in fast-paced environments.
- Excellent organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills; builds effective relationships with teams and key stakeholders.
- Demonstrated collaborator across teams to develop and deliver shared editorial priorities.
