We are seeking an experienced female Disability Support Worker to provide highly individualised support to a participant with complex support needs.

This is not an entry-level support role.

The participant has complex communication needs and behaviours of concern and requires a worker who is exceptionally patient, observant, calm and able to build trust over time.

We are looking for someone who does not rush interactions, does not become frustrated when communication is difficult and can remain calm and responsive when behaviours of concern occur.

About the Support Environment The participant requires a consistent and structured approach to support.

You will need to

- Build a trusting and respectful relationship with the participant over time
- Communicate patiently and adapt your communication style to the participant
- Learn and recognise the participant's individual verbal and non-verbal communication cues
- Recognise early indicators, triggers and changes in presentation that may precede behaviours of concern
- Follow the participant's Behaviour Support Plan and established support strategies consistently
- Respond calmly and safely to behaviours of concern without becoming reactive
- Support emotional regulation and reduce environmental triggers where possible
- Maintain clear professional boundaries
- Communicate effectively with the participant's support team, clinical team and leadership
- Complete clear, accurate and objective documentation following each shift

The Person We Are Looking For

You will be an experienced support worker who is naturally patient, calm and highly observant.

You understand that when supporting someone with complex communication needs, communication is much more than spoken words. You pay attention to body language,



behaviour, routines, facial expressions and changes in presentation.

You are comfortable taking time to understand what a participant is communicating rather than making assumptions or becoming frustrated.

You are also confident supporting behaviours of concern and understand the importance of remaining emotionally regulated when a participant is distressed or escalating.

Non-Negotiable Requirements

- Female support worker required due to the participant's individual support and personal-care requirements
- Minimum 3 years' experience supporting people with complex disabilities or high support needs
- Demonstrated experience supporting behaviours of concern
- Robust practical experience implementing Behaviour Support Plans
- Experience supporting participants with communication difficulties or complex communication needs
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated patience and ability to build rapport with participants who may require additional time to communicate
- Ability to recognise behavioural triggers, early warning signs and changes in presentation
- Proven ability to remain calm, neutral and non-reactive during escalation
- Strong professional boundaries
- Excellent observation, documentation and handover skills
- Ability to work independently while following established clinical and operational support plans





You Will Be Well Suited to This Role If You:

- Are naturally patient and do not rush people
- Listen carefully and check that you have understood what the participant is communicating
- Can adapt the way you communicate to suit the individual
- Notice small changes in behaviour or presentation
- Remain calm when someone becomes distressed, frustrated or displays behaviours of concern
- Understand that behaviour can be a form of communication
- Look for the reason behind behaviour rather than responding only to the behaviour itself
- Follow support plans consistently
- Can receive feedback and adjust your approach
- Communicate concerns promptly with the broader support team
- Build relationships without becoming overinvolved
- Are dependable and understand the importance of consistency for complex participants

This Role May Not Be Suitable If You:

- Have limited experience supporting complex participants
- Are uncomfortable with behaviours of concern
- Become easily frustrated when communication takes time
- Need participants to communicate clearly or verbally in order to understand their needs
- Tend to react emotionally during challenging situations
- Prefer task-focused support rather than relationship-based support
- Struggle to follow structured Behaviour Support Plans consistently
- Are still developing your confidence in complex support environments

Pay: $26.44 – $57.20 per hour
