Environmental Health Assistant

About the role The City of Canning is seeking an enthusiastic Environmental Health Assistant to join our Environmental Health Services team.
This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside experienced Environmental Health Officers and gain practical exposure to a broad range of public and environmental health activities that directly protect and enhance community wellbeing.
Whether it's inspecting food businesses, testing public swimming pools, investigating community concerns, monitoring mosquito activity, or assisting with public health programs, you'll gain valuable experience that complements your studies and helps prepare you for a future career in Environmental Health.
A snapshot of your new role:
- Assist environmental health officers carry out inspections of premises to ensure compliance with the Public Health Act 2016, current guidelines and other relevant statutory requirements.
- Ensure that food for sale is wholesome and secure, in compliance with Health Regulations and Food Safety Standards through inspection, monitoring and application of standard sampling and analysis techniques.
- Carry out public swimming pool sampling and inspections.
- Carry out recreational water sampling.
- Creating a work environment that is consistent with the Organisation’s vision and values.
How you will thrive in this role
- Be studying towards a Bachelor of Science (Environmental Health), Diploma of Environmental Health or other qualification acceptable to be gazetted as an Environmental Health Officer in Western Australia, by the Chief Health Officer.
- Basic knowledge and interpretation of Acts, Regulations, Local Laws, Codes and Standards associated with environmental health matters.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills and ability to write letters, reports and use computer software.
- Current Satisfactory National Police Clearance (obtained within past six months)
