The Export Controls & Compliance Specialist is responsible for establishing, implementing and managing the organisation's export control and regulatory compliance framework within the Defence Division.

This role serves as the organisation's subject matter expert on export controls, trade compliance, controlled goods governance and regulatory obligations. The position provides strategic guidance and operational support to ensure compliance with Australian export control regulations and international export control regimes, including ITAR and EAR requirements.

The Export Controls & Compliance Specialist will play a critical role in supporting Defence-related programs, safeguarding regulatory compliance and enabling the sustainable growth of the organisation's Defence capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead and maintain export control and trade compliance programs across Defence projects and operations.
- Manage export permits, licences, regulatory approvals, and ensure ongoing compliance with legislative requirements.
- Conduct compliance reviews, risk assessments, audits, and implement corrective actions where required.
- Provide expert advice on export controls, contracts, tenders, and project delivery activities.




- Deliver compliance training and build organisation-wide awareness of regulatory obligations.
- Act as the key liaison with government agencies and regulatory authorities.
- Maintain accurate compliance records, documentation, and audit-ready systems.

- Timely approval and effective management of export licences and permits.
- Successful audits, risk mitigation, and regulatory compliance outcomes.
- Increased organisational awareness and adherence to compliance requirements.
- Effective support of Defence projects, tenders, and business growth initiatives.

About You

Essential

- Proven experience in export controls, trade compliance, or regulatory compliance.
- Strong knowledge of Australian export control regulations and international frameworks, including ITAR and EAR.
- Experience managing export licences, permits, audits, risk assessments, and compliance programs.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Australian citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain relevant Defence security clearances (NV1 preferred).

Desirable

- Experience within Defence, aerospace, advanced manufacturing, or other regulated industries.
- Qualifications in Compliance, Risk, Law, Business, International Trade, or a related discipline.
- Knowledge of Defence industry requirements, including DISP.
- Relevant compliance, governance, or risk management certifications.
