The role is responsible for coordinating, reviewing and delivering GIS data throughout the full lifecycle of major pipeline and energy projects. This includes reviewing client rely-upon GIS data before design commences, transferring and controlling GIS information issued to the design contractor, reviewing final Issued for Construction (IFC)
GIS deliverables, supporting project teams during construction, and submitting final As-Built GIS data that complies with client specifications.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Review client rely-upon GIS data to confirm all required datasets, attributes, constraints and reference information are complete, accurate and suitable for design.
- Identify missing, conflicting or unclear GIS information and coordinate clarifications with the client and relevant project stakeholders.
- Prepare, transfer and control the GIS data issued to the design contractor, maintaining appropriate revision and transmittal records.
- Coordinate GIS information exchanges and technical interfaces with the design contractor throughout the design process.
- Review the design contractor’s final IFC GIS deliverables to confirm compliance with client specifications, schemas, coordinate systems, naming conventions and project requirements.
- Verify that IFC GIS data aligns with approved engineering drawings, flowline lists, P&IDs;, civil maps, survey information, environmental and land constraints, and approved design changes.
- Record GIS review comments and coordinate the close-out of identified issues before the IFC data is accepted and released for construction.
- Provide technical GIS support to engineering, survey, construction, quality and project management teams during construction.
- Review, validate and compile daily As-Built survey data, ensuring consistency with the approved IFC design, field changes and client schema requirements.
- Maintain project geodatabases, spatial data integrity, metadata, version control and auditable change records.
- Prepare and deliver GIS datasets, maps, layouts, spatial reports and CAD or KML exports for internal stakeholders and external clients.
- Perform data cleaning, spatial analysis, quality assurance, schema mapping, data migration and troubleshooting across client, contractor and internal systems.
- Develop and maintain GIS workflows, templates, validation checks and automation using ArcPy, ModelBuilder or similar tools.
- Following construction, compile and complete quality assurance checks on the final As-Built GIS dataset, resolve outstanding data gaps and confirm compliance with client specifications.
- Submit the final compliant As-Built GIS data and associated deliverables in accordance with contractual and project handover requirements.
Desired Skills and Experience
About You The successful candidate will hold a tertiary qualification in Geospatial Science, Geographic Information Systems, Surveying, Geomatics, Environmental Science or a related discipline.
You will have demonstrated professional GIS experience, preferably within pipeline, energy, utilities, infrastructure or resources projects. Experience coordinating GIS deliverables through design, construction and final As-Built handover is highly desirable.
You will possess advanced knowledge of GIS data management, quality assurance, coordinate systems, schemas, metadata and version control. Proficiency with ESRI products, particularly ArcGIS Pro and geodatabases, is required.
