About Us The Somers General is located on the picturesque western side of the Mornington Peninsula. First opened in 1927 as the Boulevard Café & Post Office store, the heart of this lovely building has always been to serve it’s community. Today, the venue is once more a café and general store all in one, focusing on local produce and products.

We are open seven days a week, our kitchen hours are 8-3pm.

We are still the local hub for our loyal customer base of people ranging from young families all the way to retirees and holidaymakers.

About the Role We have a fantastic opportunity available for an experienced Head Chef to join our team, working in a well-equipped and spacious kitchen.

Our kitchen has multiple prep areas, large dish area and a walk-in fridge.

The menu focuses on comfort food and classics done well with a local, creative flair.

Your daily duties would include but not be limited to:





- Create and implement menus with a focus on local, seasonal produce
- Responsible for the costings of menu dishes
- Managing quality control and ensuring consistent high standards of product and dishes
- Ensuring smooth, efficient service through all service periods
- Opportunity to manage events and functions
- Maintaining food safety logs
- Working with the FOH team on menu knowledge
- Responsible for a respectful, calm, inclusive and safe work environment
- Management of all training and development of the kitchen team
- Managing staff rosters and wages

About You

- Trade qualification and/or relevant commercial experience
- Must have previous cafe experience
- A genuine passion for food
- High level of hygiene standards and personal presentation
- A calm, positive work attitude
- Experience with menu planning
