About the role:
As the HST Manager for Australia, you will report to the Australian Country Manager and lead the delivery of health, safety, environment and training strategy across our Australian operations.
You will work closely with Executive and Site Leadership Teams across projects throughout Australia to embed practical HST systems, strengthen critical risk controls, support regulatory compliance and drive a proactive safety culture across the business.
Accountabilities will include:
- Lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of HST strategies, systems and standards across Australian mining operations.
- Provide trusted HST advice, coaching and support to the Executive and Site Leadership Teams.
- Ensure compliance with relevant health, safety, environmental, training and mining legislation, approvals, regulations and internal standards.
- Lead incident investigations, audits, inspections and assurance activities, ensuring corrective actions are effective and completed in a timely manner.
- Oversee critical risk management, emergency preparedness, occupational health, WorkCover claims management, injury management and return to work processes.
- Manage training, competency and capability programs to ensure employees and contractors are equipped to work safely and effectively.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with regulators, contractors, internal stakeholders and operational teams.
- Monitor HST performance data and reporting to identify trends, inform decision making and drive continuous improvement.
- Manage HST resources, systems and budgets to deliver safe, compliant and efficient outcomes for the business.

About you:
- Tertiary qualification in Work Health and Safety, Training or a related discipline.
- Extensive experience in a senior HST leadership role within mining, resources, civil construction or a similar heavy industry workplace.
- Strong working knowledge of WHS and training compliance requirements relevant to mining operations.
- Experience managing WorkCover matters, injury management programs and return to work obligations in accordance with relevant legislation and business requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to lead HST teams, influence operational leaders and drive practical risk-based solutions.
- Proven experience managing incident investigations, audits, inspections, corrective actions and assurance processes.
- Experience developing and maintaining HST management systems, critical risk controls and emergency response frameworks.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to engage with diverse stakeholders, including site teams, contractors and regulators.
- A visible and values led leadership style, with the ability to build trust, promote accountability and coach safe behaviours.
- Proven experience supporting geographically dispersed operations and working effectively with site-based and corporate teams.
- Sound understanding of contractor management, operational risk, environmental obligations and workforce competency requirements.
- Effective influencing, negotiating and engagement skills, with the ability to work constructively across all levels of the business.
- The ability to lead difficult conversations, challenge unsafe practices and support leaders to make sound, risk-informed decisions.
