MC Earthmoving is looking for an experienced HSEQ Manager to take ownership of our Health, Safety, Environment and Quality function and work alongside our people across a diverse range of civil construction, earthmoving, quarry and mining projects.
MC Earthmoving is a well-established civil construction and earthmoving contractor delivering bulk earthworks, quarry overburden removal, dam construction and upgrades, tailings work, wetlands, subdivisions and major civil projects.
We work across Victoria on everything from long-term civil developments to quarries and mining projects.
Your key responsibilities will include (and are not limited to):
- Build and promote a positive safety culture through coaching, engagement and collaborative working relationships across all levels of the business.
- Support operational teams by providing practical HSEQ advice and encouraging proactive identification and reporting of hazards, near misses and safety concerns.
- Lead incident and near-miss investigations, including root cause analysis, corrective actions and the implementation of preventive measures.
- Conduct risk assessments, critical control reviews and support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce workplace risks.
- Prepare statutory, client, and internal HSEQ reports, safety alerts and lessons learned communications.
- Manage and continuously improve the Integrated Management System (IMS) and maintain certification to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.
- Coordinate internal and external audits, manage non-conformances and oversee corrective and preventive action programs.
- Develop, review and maintain HSEQ documentation, including policies, procedures, SWMS, risk assessments, critical controls, forms and project-specific documentation.
- Partner with operational teams to ensure HSEQ systems and procedures are practical, effective and aligned with the way work is performed.
- Conduct site inspections, audits and assurance activities to verify compliance with legislative, environmental, quality, safety and client requirements.
- Monitor contractor compliance, plant and workshop safety, occupational health risks, emergency preparedness and corrective action implementation.
- Collaborate with HR and operational leaders to coordinate inductions, compliance training, competency management, refresher training and workforce capability programs.
- Facilitate engaging toolbox talks and support competency reporting and training records management through Assignar.
- Contribute to tender submissions, prequalification applications, HSEQ performance reporting and business-wide continuous improvement initiatives.
- Promote a learning-focused culture that prioritises continuous improvement, accountability and the prevention of future incidents.
- Provide HSEQ support across multiple operational sites and business functions.
- Travel to project and operational sites as required to conduct audits, inspections, investigations and stakeholder engagement activities.
We're looking for a candidate with the following qualifications, experience and skills:
- Demonstrated HSEQ experience within civil construction, bulk earthworks, mining, quarrying, or a similarly high-risk operational environment.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in WHS, HSEQ, or a related discipline, or significant industry experience.
- Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (or higher).
- Practical experience implementing and maintaining management systems aligned with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001.
- Strong understanding of Victorian and Australian WHS/OHS legislation, Codes of Practice, and relevant standards.
- Experience developing, reviewing, and implementing SWMS, risk assessments, policies, and procedures.
- Proven incident investigation and root cause analysis skills.
- Experience conducting site audits, inspections, and compliance assessments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels of the business.
- A current Australian driver's licence.
- Previous experience in civil construction, bulk earthworks, mining or quarrying environments will be highly regarded.
