A temporary part-time opportunity to play an important advocacy role, helping patients, families, carers and support persons navigate mental health legislation while contributing to positive health outcomes across Queensland's largest public health service.
About the role
As an Independent Patient Rights Adviser, you will provide information, guidance and advocacy support to patients and their nominated support persons, families, carers and other support people regarding their rights and responsibilities under the Mental Health Act 2016. Working independently and impartially, you will help patients communicate their views, wishes and preferences regarding treatment and care, support engagement with the Mental Health Review Tribunal process, and collaborate with a range of stakeholders across the mental health sector.
About you
Our ideal candidate will be someone who can carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Health's values:
- Ensure that a patient, and the patient's nominated support persons, family, carers and other support persons are advised of their rights and responsibilities under the
- Help the patient, and the patient's nominated support persons, family, carers and other support persons to communicate to health practitioners the patient's views, wishes and preferences about the patient's treatment and care.
- Work cooperatively with community visitors performing functions under the Public Guardian Act
- Consult with authorised mental health practitioners, authorised doctors, administrators of authorised mental health services, and the chief psychiatrist on the rights of patients under the Act, the Guardianship and Administration Act 2000, the Powers of Attorney Act 1998 and other laws.
