Infrastructure Engineer | Sydney | Network / Bare Metal / Ansible

I'm working with a Sydney-based deep-tech company whose products are commercially deployed and generating revenue, and they need an Infrastructure Engineer to own the physical and network layer that the business runs on.

On-prem compute, storage, and the fabric connecting it all, plus a compute cluster that ships alongside every piece of hardware the company builds.

Infrastructure Engineer Responsibilities

- Design and run network engineering across layers 2 and 3, VLANs, subnetting, routing, link aggregation and firewall policy.
- Rack, cable and commission physical hardware end to end, then hand it over provisioned and reproducible through code rather than configured by hand.
- Run Kubernetes on hardware the team owns directly.
- Handle firmware and BMC level work through IPMI or Redfish.
- Bring infrastructure as code into the buildout process wherever it replaces manual, one-off configuration.

Infrastructure Engineer Requirements

- At least four years in infrastructure, network or platform engineering with genuine,



substantial hands-on bare metal experience, this is a physical layer role as much as a software one.
- Strong Ansible depth, structuring real playbook estates rather than one-off scripts.
- Comfortable designing and troubleshooting at layer 2 and 3, VLANs, routing protocols, link aggregation, firewall and ACL policy.
- Infrastructure as code beyond configuration management, Terraform, OpenTofu or similar.
- Production Kubernetes experience on owned hardware.
- Specific vendor platform or provisioning tooling isn't a gate, solid underlying network and automation depth picks up a new toolchain fast.
- Exposure to high-throughput fabrics, network automation or source-of-truth tooling, and repeatable multi-site buildouts including remote or air-gapped locations are all a bonus.
