The NDIA values a positive contemporary attitude to disability The EL2 Domain (Data) Architect (Labour Hire) provides strategic architectural leadership and direction across a defined business or technology domain.

The role is responsible for developing and maintaining the domain architecture, target state and transition roadmap, ensuring technology investments and solutions align with organisational strategy, enterprise architecture principles and business priorities.

The EL2 Domain (Data) Architect (Labour Hire) works across programs, projects and multidisciplinary teams to provide authoritative architectural advice, guide solution design and ensure consistency and interoperability across the domain. The role identifies dependencies, opportunities for reuse and emerging architectural risks, and supports informed investment and technology decisions.

At the EL2 level, the role operates with a high degree of autonomy and influence, providing strategic advice to senior executives and governance forums and leading the resolution of complex architectural issues that span multiple systems, programs and organisational boundaries.

Key duties and responsibilities

Responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

- Develop, maintain and communicate the architecture, target state and strategic roadmap for a defined business or technology domain.




- Provide authoritative architectural advice and technical leadership across programs, projects and initiatives operating within the domain.
- Ensure solution architectures and technology investments align with enterprise architecture, domain strategy, security requirements and organisational priorities.
- Lead architectural analysis of complex business and technology problems and develop strategic options, recommendations and transition approaches.
- Establish and maintain domain-level architecture principles, patterns, standards and guardrails to promote consistency, interoperability and reuse.
- Review and provide assurance over solution designs and architectural decisions, identifying cross-domain dependencies, risks, gaps and opportunities.
- Work collaboratively with enterprise architects, solution architects, security architects, data engineering leaders, business stakeholders and delivery teams to ensure coherent end-toend architecture.
- Influence investment and prioritisation decisions by providing clear advice on architectural impacts, technical dependencies, risks, sequencing and longer-term implications.
- Represent the domain at architecture and governance forums and support effective architectural decision-making and assurance.
- Monitor emerging technologies, industry developments and organisational capability needs and assess their potential impact on the domain.
- Lead the resolution of significant architectural issues and manage complex trade-offs between strategic direction, delivery priorities, risk, cost and technical constraints.
- Build architectural capability by providing leadership, guidance and mentoring to architects and other technical specialists.

Essential criteria

1. Minimum 8+ years of experience designing and delivering complex enterprise data initiatives and solutions, with at least 3 years in an EL2 or equivalent principal architect capacity (and/or relevant industry experience).
2. Demonstrated ability to translate organisational strategy, business requirements and complex technology considerations into coherent domain architecture and strategic direction.
3. Extensive experience developing and applying architecture principles, patterns, standards and governance to guide solutions across multiple programs, systems or delivery initiatives.
4. Demonstrated ability to analyse complex architectural issues, dependencies and trade-offs and provide authoritative, evidence-based recommendations to senior stakeholders and governance forums.
5. Solid understanding of contemporary enterprise technology environments, data management practices, MDM, RDM, data modelling, data management and data security practices.
6. Demonstrated senior stakeholder leadership and communication skills, including the ability to influence executives, architects, technical specialists and delivery teams and achieve alignment across competing priorities.

Desirable criteria

1. Experience performing a Domain Architect, Enterprise Architect or equivalent senior architecture role within Australian Government or another large, complex organisation.
2. Formal certifications in enterprise architecture (e.g., TOGAF) or advanced cloud architecture (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional or Azure Solutions Architect Expert)
3. Extensive experience delivering major cloud transformation projects within an Australian Federal or State Government agency.
4. Relevant tertiary qualifications or professional certifications in enterprise architecture, technology, information systems or a related discipline.
